CAMBRIDGE, Mass.
– A pair from UMBC and a rookie from Albany took home America East women’s
lacrosse weekly honors, the conference office announced Monday.
UMBC seniors Lindsay Cox and Kendall Mason were named
Offensive Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively,
while Albany freshman Rachel Bowles earned Rookie of the Week honors.
Cox (High Bridge, N.J.) broke a 2-2 tie against Cal, scoring
three-straight goals for the Retrievers, giving UMBC a lead it would not
relinquish. Cox assisted Abby Wilson's goal with 4:00 to go to halt the
charging Golden Bears, giving UMBC the 7-4 advantage. Cox won a team-best five
draw controls and finished with four goals and one assist to total five points.
She leads UMBC with eight goals on the season.
Mason (Lloyd Harbord, N.Y.) stopped eight shots in her
second start of the season, including six saves in the first half. She allowed just five goals against Cal, and
held off the Golden Bears, surrendering just three goals in the second half.
Mason registered a .615 save percentage and helped UMBC to its first 2-0 start
since 2010.
Bowles (Cicero, N.Y.), who is recovering from a
season-ending ACL injury last season, tallied a team-high four goals in Albany’s
17-7 loss at No. 3 Florida. Her four goals came on just five shots, converting
80 percent of her shots into goals.
