Strong second halves propelled Boston University, Hartford and Vermont to wins Wednesday as home teams went 3-0. The Terriers beat Albany, 79-69, while the Hawks outlasted UNH, 49-44, and the Catamounts beat Maine, 73-61.
Boston U. (16-11, 10-4 AE) shot 52 percent from the field en route to its fifth-straight win and eighth in its last nine games. The victory keeps the Terriers in a tie with Vermont for second place of the league standings. John Papale and D.J. Irving each had 18 points to lead the Terriers, while Mike paced Albany with 21.
Hartford (15-12, 8-6 AE) snapped a two-game losing skid by New Hampshire (7-18, 3-10 AE) to just 32 percent shooting and 44 points. Mark Nwakamma had 12 points to lead the Hawks, who have their most wins since the 2007-08 campaign, while Nate Sikma added 11 and eight boards. Chandler Rhoads' 16 points paced the Wildcats.
Vermont (17-9, 10-4 AE) closed the game on a 24-5 run to snap its two-game losing streak and stay tied for second with Boston U. Sandro Carissimo led four Catamounts in double figures with 16 points while Brian Voelkel scored just four points, but had a unique double-double, grabbing 16 rebounds and dishing out 10 assists. Zarko Valjarevic led Maine, which had its three-game win streak snapped, with 14 points.
