CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- After winning the America East swimming and diving championships on Sunday, the UMBC men and the New Hampshire women find themselves nationally ranked by CollegeSwimming.com. The Retrievers come in at No. 18 in this week's rankings while the Wildcats are No. 19. The UMBC women are the third team to appear in the rankings, checking in at No. 24.
For both UMBC squads, it is the first time in school history that they are ranked. Along with that accomplishment, the Retrievers can also boast the men's national swimmer of the week. Mohamed Hussein (Cairo, Egypt) was named the top swimmer in Division I after leading his squad to its ninth America East Championship in 10 years. In the process, Hussein was a part of four conference records and achieved NCAA B cut times in three events.
The 19th ranked Wildats were led to their fifth America East Championship by the meet's Most Outstanding Swimmer, Jenni Roberts (Springvale, Maine). The junior took part in setting three conference records, including an NCAA B cut in the 200-yard individual medley.
