CAMBRIDGE, Mass. –
The Stony Brook Seawolves and New Hampshire Wildcats claimed the season’s first
America East women’s lacrosse weekly honors, the conference office announced
Monday. America East teams went 2-2 on the first weekend of the season, as
Stony Brook and UMBC both earned victories.
Stony Brook senior Claire Petersen was named America East
Offensive Player of the Week, while the Seawolves Frankie Caridi was named
Defensive Player of the Week. New Hampshire freshman Laura McHoul earned Rookie
of the Week honors.
Petersen (Wantagh, N.Y.) earned Offensive Player of the Week
after tying her own school record and coming one point shy of tying the
conference record with 10 points in a 20-5 win over Bucknell for the Seawolves.
The senior had four goals and a game-high six assists, and sits seventh of the
Stony Brook all-time career points list with 111. Petersen helped the Seawolves
set a school record for most goals in a season opener in program history.
Caridi (East Northport, N.Y.) was named Defensive Player of
the Week after allowing just three goals and making seven saves in Stony Brook’s
win over Bucknell. The junior goalie stopped a conference-high 70-percent of
the shots she faced while allowing a conference-low three goals. She helped
Stony Brook set a school record for fewest goals allowed in a season opener
with just five.
McHoul (Westwood, Mass.) was named Rookie of the Week after recording
five points, all on assists, in her collegiate debut at Hofstra, as the
Wildcats fell 13-12. She set up the team's second, third and fourth goals to
propel New Hampshire to a 4-0 lead. McHoul then assisted on the sixth goal to
enter halftime with four helpers. She also set up the goal that gave UNH a 10-8
advantage midway through the second half.
