Lyle Thompson's Big Day in Win Over Syracuse Nets League's Player of the Week Honor

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- By leading University at Albany to its first-ever win over perennial power Syracuse, the Great Danes' Lyle Thompson has picked up the conference's first Player of the Week honor of the season. Additionally, Stony Brook University's Brody Eastwood earned Rookie of the Week accolades. The first week honors of the 2013 season were announced Monday afternoon.

Thompson (Onondaga Nation, N.Y.) racked up eight points, scoring two goals and handing out a career-high six assists, to lead Albany to a 16-15 double overtime win over #13 Syracuse in its season opener Sunday. The junior attack assisted on three of Albany's first four goals also set up his brother, Miles, for the game winner in double-overtime. He also scored the Great Danes' sixth and 10th goals. Thompson's six assists are the most by an America East player since Vermont's Drew Philie had eight on April 3, 2010.

Eastwood (Victoria, British Columbia) scored three goals in his collegiate debut for Stony Brook Saturday in its 13-9 loss at Marist, on way to earning Rookie of the Week honors. The freshman attack, who registered a team-best nine shots, had two of those scores in the first quarter to stake his team to a 5-2 lead and added a third score towards the end of the second quarter.

Albany entered both national polls (USILA Coaches' Poll/Inside Lacrosse Media Poll) at No. 16 following its 16-15 double-overtime win at #13 Syracuse Sunday, its first win over the Orange in 10 tries. Elsewhere this weekend, Hartford fell to #2 Maryland, 16-4, UMBC was beaten by Robert Morris, 12-9 and Vermont lost 13-7 to #10/11 Colgate.
