Boston U., Stony Brook, Hartford and UMBC Win Games Wednesday

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Two home teams and two road teams won games on Wednesday, as Boston U., Hartford, UMBC and Stony Brook notched victories.

Boston U. (21-4, 11-1) was led by three players in double figures as the Terriers beat Vermont (7-17, 4-7), 56-47, on the road. Mo Moran led Boston U. with 12 points and five assists while Lauren Buschmann had a game-high 17 points on 11-of-14 shooting from the free-throw line for Vermont. The first seven minutes of the game featured five ties and three lead changes before Vermont took a 12-10 advantage following a jumper from Tierra Shumpert with 12:34 to play. Danielle Callahan responded for the Terriers on the other end with a 3-pointer to spark eight unanswered points from the junior. Callahan's initial trey ignited a 23-3 run by BU that spanned the remainder of the opening period.

Stony Brook (13-12, 5-7) outlasted Binghamton (4-21, 3-9), 60-57, at the Events Center. Jessica Previlon recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds. With the Seawolves leading by two with less than 30 seconds to go, Gerdan Gatling grabbed an offensive rebound off a missed free throw and Teasha Harris hit a pair of free throws that gave Stony Brook a four-point cushion with 18 seconds to go.

Hartford (17-8, 8-4) hit a school record 14 3-pointers to beat Maine (2-22, 1-10), 82-56, in a game that was nationally broadcast on ESPN3. Amber Bepko scored a game and career-high 21 points, hitting five 3-pointers while Shanise Bultron poured in 18 points while also adding five 3-pointers. Maine was led by Ashleigh Roberts with 23 points.

Kristin Coles scored 16 points and pulled down nine rebounds to lead UMBC (9-16, 5-7) to its second-straight win, 59-50, over New Hampshire (9-14, 4-7). Since returning from her second injury, Coles is shooting 41.7 percent from the floor and averaging 10.3 points and 8.0 rebounds. UMBC took a 10-point lead at 45-35 on a bucket from Bria White, and maintained a double-digit lead despite not scoring a field goal for the final 8:18 of the contest.
