A pair of America East men's basketball teams picked up wins Tuesday, while two more contests take place Wednesday. Boston U. and Stony Brook were victorious last night, while UNH hosts UMBC and Maine entertains Hartford tonight.
Boston U. (14-11, 8-4 AE) beat Vermont (16-8, 9-3 AE) 64-59 in Burlington, its sixth win in its last seven games. The win snapped the Catamounts four-game win streak, knocked them out of first place in the league standings as was their first defeat at home vs. a league opponent in 13 games. The Terriers, who swept the season set from UVM, moved into sole possession of third place with the win. John Papale scored a career-best 19 points to lead the way. Brian Voelkel had a double-double of 11 points and 12 rebounds to pace Vermont.
Stony Brook (18-6, 9-2 AE) regained its spot atop of the league standings with its 73-47 win over Binghamton (3-22, 1-11 AE). The Seawolves, winners of four of five and 15 straight at home in league play, held the Bearcats to just 30 percent shooting en route to the win. Dave Coley paced Stony Brook with 14 points while Jordan Reed recorded his league-best 10th double-double of the season (14 points, 10 rebounds).
On Wednesday, Hartford (14-10, 7-4 AE) looks to extend its win streak to four games when it visits Maine (9-15, 4-7 AE), which is coming off a win over Albany its last time out. Also Wednesday, UNH (6-16, 2-8 AE) hosts UMBC (6-18, 4-7 AE). With a Wildcat win, UNH head coach Bill Herrion would become the league's all-time leader with 152 America East wins. Both tip times are 7 p.m.
