CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - America East teams
begin the second half of the conference schedule on Saturday, highlighted by a
battle between Hartford and Boston U. on NESN at noon.
The Terriers
(17-4, 7-1) defeated Hartford (14-7, 5-3) in the first meeting this season back
on Jan. 5, 45-39. Rashidat Agboola had 26 points in the contest to pace Boston
U. while Nikkia Smith had 16 points and nine rebounds for Hartford. The
Terriers trail first-place Albany by one game in the standings and will be
giving away jerseys to the first 500 fans who attend the game.
Also tipping at noon, UMBC (6-15, 2-6) travels
to Maine (2-19, 1-9). The Retrievers had to stave off a late comeback from the
Black Bears last time the teams met, holding on for a 54-50 win thanks to a
pair of Raven Harris free throws with four seconds left. Bria White led UMBC
with 15 points in that game, while Courtney Anderson led Maine with 17 points.
Stony Brook
(11-10, 3-5) hosts its annual Play 4Kay game at 2 p.m. against New Hampshire
(8-12, 3-5) in an important game for seeding in the America East Championship.
The Seawolves won in Durham for the first time since 2007 in the first meeting
this season, grinding out a 48-44 win. Chikilra Goodman had 18 points and seven
rebounds for Stony Brook while Kelsey Hogan led New Hampshire with 12 points.
Albany
(17-3, 8-0) hosts SUNY rival Binghamton (4-17, 3-5) to round out the Saturday
schedule for the Great Danes annual Big Purple Growl. The Great Danes defeated the Bearcats 72-47 in
Vestal earlier this season behind 18 points from freshman Shereesha Richards
who was 8-of-10 from the field in the game.
