CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - During a light week of America East men's basketball action during which just five games were played, standout performances by Maine's Dimitry Akanda-Coronel and Binghamton's Marlon Beck led their teams to wins and earned the duo the conference's weekly awards for week 8:
Player of the Week
Dimitry Akanda-Coronel, Sophomore, Guard, Maine
- Led Maine to a win over Middle Tennessee State in the Dr. Pepper Classic by scoring a game-high 27 points on 10-of-22 shooting including 5-of-8 from three-point land.
- Also added a team-high eight rebounds and four assists.
- The win was Maine's first against a Division I opponent this season and snapped an eight-game losing skid.
Rookie of the WeekMarlon Beck, Fr., Guard, Binghamton
- Recorded his first career double-double (10 points, 10 assists) in Binghamton's win over Bryant Saturday.
- Averaged 7.0 points, 7.0 assists and a 4.67-to-1 assist to turnover ratio in two games last week.

- Binghamton and Maine each snapped losing streaks over the weekend.
- The Bearcats stopped a three-game skid with a win over Bryant Saturday.
- The Black Bears snapped an eight-game losing streak with a win over Middle Tennessee State Sunday.
- Stony Brook has won three straight and four of their last five games.
- SBU is receiving votes in the latest CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25.
- Albany has won three of its last four games.
- Hartford's win over St. Peter's Sunday was its third in its last four games.
- Both Vermont and Stony Brook are 1-0 in league play while the River Hawks and UNH are 0-1.
- America East is youth driven as five of the top 10 scorers are freshmen or sophomores.
- Vermont's Brian Voelkel became just the ninth player in league history to reach the 1,000-rebound mark Saturday at Harvard.
- Stony Brook's Dave Coley eclipsed the 1,000-point mark on Dec. 22.
- Full scale conference play begins this weekend with three games. Albany hosts Hartford, UMass Lowell entertains UMBC and Binghamton visits Maine.
