Big First Half Leads Vermont Past Canisius Monday

In the only America East women's basketball game on Tuesday night, the Vermont Catamounts (4-5) used a big run in the first half to beat Canisius, 74-51.

Kayla Burchill paced UVM with 16 points, including 14 in the first half while hitting four 3-pointers.

The Catamounts held a 10-6 lead at the 14:15 mark of the first half before going on a 23-0 run to take a commanding 33-6 lead. Burchill fueled the run with 11 points. Vermont went into the locker room with a 46-22 lead at halftime and led by as much as 30 in the second half.

The 11 3-pointers Vermont hit were the most for the team since hitting a school-record 14 vs. Albany in 2005.

No games are on the schedule for Tuesday night, with the next game being held Wednesday when New Hampshire hosts Cleveland State at noon on Education Day. The game can be seen live for free on AmericaEast.TV.
