Hartford Tops Maine in OT in Conference Opener

Hartford (2-8, 1-0) outscored Maine (5-4, 0-1), 14-4, in overtime to beat the Black Bears, 66-56, in the America East opener for both teams on Wednesday night.

Freshman Deanna Mayza led the Hawks with 18 points in the contest, as Hartford defeated Maine for the 18th-straight time in the series. She also added a game-high seven assists. Maine was led by Liz Wood who had 12 points, nine rebounds and six assists, while Mikala Gustaffson also contributed 12 points to go with seven boards.

The Black Bears led for the majority of the game, including taking its largest lead at 39-30 with 11:15 remaining. Hartford responded with a 14-2 to take its first lead of the game at 44-41 with 5:20 remaining. The Hawks never trailed again despite several ties down the stretch.

Binghamton (1-8) dropped its fourth-straight game, 75-49, to Princeton at the Events Center. The teams traded buckets for the first 10 minutes of the game before the Tigers went on a 20-5 run to take a commanding 36-19 lead late in the first half that they would not relinquish. Vaneeshia Paulk led the Bearcats with 15 points for the second-straight contest.

No games are on the schedule for Thursday or Friday night, with two games set for Saturday.
