CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The 2013-14 college basketball season opens on Friday and three America East women's basketball teams are in action including reigning champion Albany.
The 2013-14 season will be the first where all America East teams will broadcast regular-season games live for free through the AmericaEast.TV portal. All non-conference home games and every conference game will be available to fans free of charge.
Six of the nine America East squads begin their seasons at home, including two on Friday night. Binghamton will host Buffalo at 5:30 p.m. and Stony Brook faces off with NJIT. Both games are the front ends of double-headers with the men's teams and will be available on AmericaEast.TV.
The Bearcats were picked eighth in the preseason poll and return 10 letterwinners, including three starters, from last season. The squad has advanced to the America East semifinals three times in the last five years.
Stony Brook had the seventh best turnaround in the country last year with a 10-win improvement, finishing 14-16. The Seawolves were picked third in the preseason poll, the second-highest selection for the team in program history.
Albany begins its title defense on the road against local rival Siena at 5 p.m. in a battle for the Albany Cup. The Great Danes have won back-to-back America East titles after going 16-0 in league play last year.
