Maine, Binghamton Move On To Tournament Finals

Maine (4-1) and Binghamton (1-4) each earned wins in the opening round games of their respective tournaments on Friday and will play in the championship games on Saturday as part of four America East women's basketball contests on the schedule.

Maine scored 86 points, the most for the team since 2009, to beat UMass, 86-56, for the team's largest margin of victory since 2005. Ashleigh Roberts had a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds while Liz Wood had a career-high 24 points. The Black Bears will face Wisconsin-Green Bay in the title game at 2 pm on AmericaEast.TV.

Binghamton erased a nine-point second half deficit to beat host New Mexico, 58-53, in the Lobos Thanksgiving Tournament. The Bearcats will face Arkansas in the final at 7 pm ET. Kandace Newry buried a 3-pointer with 27 seconds left to break a 53-53 tie and send the Bearcats to the victory. Sherae Swinson led all scorers with 18 points.

Also on Friday, Hartford dropped a 68-45 decision to Missouri in the opening round of the Miami Thanksgiving Tournament, and UMBC fell to Rider, 60-48, in the Navy Classic. Both teams will close out play in those tournaments today, with the Hawks taking on St. Francis Brooklyn at 1 pm and UMBC facing Brown at 3:30 p.m.

Also on Friday, Stony Brook lost to Army, 75-67, despite a career-high 24 points from Chikilra Goodman.
