CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – America East teams hit the road and participated in meets with strong competition this past weekend. Here’s a look at this week’s Swimmer and Diver of the Week:
Swimmer of the Week
Oneida Cooper, Jr., New Hampshire
Johannesburg, South Africa
- Was victorious in two events in a three-day meet at the Terrier Invitational.
- Posted a time of 4:53.70 to place first in the 500-yard free.
- Currently ranks 150th in the latest CollegeSwimming.com 500-free times (Nov. 26).
- Was part of the winning quartet in the 400-yard medley relay, clocking in at 3:49.81, which is currently ranked 80th on CollegeSwimming.com.
- Won a silver medal in the 200-yard freestyle event, with a time of 1:51.26.
- Oneida’s times in the 500-yard free and 200-yard free are currently among the best in the league.
Diver of the Week
Corinna Darelius, So., UMBC
Rye, N.Y.
- Helped the Retrievers finish third in the diving segment of the Patriot Invitational at George Mason.
- Registered a three-meter score of 241.25 to take second.
- Earned a fifth-place finish of 232.30 in the one-meter dive.
- Collected her season-best score of 254.95 in the preliminaries of the three-meter.
Around the League
- UMBC’s Emily Escobedo set four season-best times at the Patriot Invitational, including two second place finishes in the 200-yard breast (2:17.38) and the 400-yard IM (4.28.99).
- Escobedo’s 200-yard finish currently ranks 108th on CollegeSwimming.com
- Vermont’s Christina Weaver collected an individual win in the 50-free (23.67) and placed second in the 100-free (51.08).
- Maine’s Naja Harvey finished third in the 100-yard (1:05.72) and 200-yard (2:26.11) breast stroke events.
- Kara Capossela continues her winning ways sweeping the one-meter (230.95) and three meter (254.75) events.
