Richards Earns 3rd Straight Player of the Week Nod

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Albany women’s basketball stands as the lone unbeaten team in the America East with a 5-0 record as week three of college basketball season came to a close Sunday. Maine got off to its first 3-0 start since 1989 before losing at Syracuse Sunday. Here are the week three award winners:

Player of the Week
Shereesha Richards, So., Albany
Oceanview, N.J.

  • Led Albany to a 2-0 week after averaging 25.0 points per game to lead the conference to go with six rebounds  and three steals.
  • Shot 66.7 percent from the field (20-30), good for fourth in the America East, and 90.9 percentage from the free throw line (10-11), the fifth-best percentage in the conference last week.
  • Had 22 points, six rebounds and three steals on 9-of-16 shooting in a win over Cal State Fullerton.
  • Tied her career-high with 28 points on 11-of-14 shooting in a win over Delaware State. Also had six rebounds and three steals.

Rookie of the Week
Kylie Butler, Fr., Vermont
Phoenix, Ariz.

  • Averaged 14.0 points and eight rebounds while shooting 50 percent from the field to be named to the TD Bank Classic All-Tournament team as Vermont went 1-1.
  • Went for double figures in both games, scoring 12 points and pulling down seven rebounds in a win over North Florida.
  • Poured in 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds in a loss to the No. 2 ranked Mid-Major team in the country, Wisconsin – Green Bay.

Around the League

  • Albany has won 21-straight regular season games and the 5-0 start is the best for the team since 2010-11.
  • Albany shot 63 percent from the floor vs. Delaware St. The Great Danes have the last two 60+ percent efforts in the America East, shooting 62 percent last season vs. Siena (12/1/12).
  • Maine started 3-0 for the first time since 1989.
  • Maine’s Ashleigh Roberts scored her 850th career point and registered her fourth-straight double figure scoring effort vs. Syracuse.
  • Stony Brook eclipsed the 80-point mark for the first time since 2007 with an 83-79 win at Bradley, who was receiving votes in the mid-major poll.
  • Stony Brook’s Brittany Snow became the first Seawolf to score 30+ points in a game since 2007 with 30 points and nine rebounds vs. Bradley.
