CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The America East women's soccer regular-season came to a close on Sunday with UMBC and Stony Brook tying for the regular-season championship. It is the first regular-season title for both schools. UMBC won the tiebreak and earned the No. 1 seed while also sweeping the weekly awards. Here is a look at the final women's soccer weekly award winners:
Player of the Week
Jessy Brown, Jr., UMBC
Plantation, Fla.
- Totaled one goal and one assist to lead UMBC to a 2-0-0 week and the No. 1 seed in the America East Championship.
- Helped UMBC to a pair of come-from-behind wins as UMBC captured a share of its first regular-season title.
- Scored the game-tying goal with 3:25 left in a 2-1 win over then first-place Hartford.
- Chipped in an assist on the game-winning goal with less than eight minutes to go in a 2-1 win over New Hampshire
Rookie of the Week
Amanda Dailey, Fr., UMBC
Howell, N.J.
- Notched one goal and one assist to help UMBC to a 2-0-0 week and a share of their first regular-season title and the No. 1 seed in the America East Championship.
- Scored the game-winning goal with one minute remaining in regulation against Hartford.
- Assisted on Lilly Rydon’s game-winning goal against New Hampshire with less than eight minutes remaining in the game.
Around the League
- UMBC and Stony Brook are Co-Regular Season Champions with 18 points each. It is just the second time in conference history the season has ended with co-champions. The other time was in 2007 when New Hampshire and Boston University tied with 19 points.
- UMBC is the No. 1 seed for the first time in school history. Stony Brook has won the regular-season for the first time in school history.
- Vermont’s Nikki McFarland scored a goal in double OT against Binghamton to give the Catamounts their third-straight trip to the America East tournament. Vermont will be the No. 5 seed with Binghamton the No. 6 seed.
- Maine is the No. 3 seed in the tournament, making the team’s 10th appearance in the last 11 years.
- Hartford will make its fourth-straight appearance in the America East Championship.
