UNH, Stony Brook Move Into Tie for First in #AEVB Standings

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - America East volleyball teams begin the second half of the season this weekend, with one match Friday, two Saturday and one Sunday. Four teams are tied for first place in the league standings. The top seed at the end of the regular-season will host the championship Nov. 21-22/22-23. Here is a look at the weekend matches:

Friday, October 25
at Stony Brook 3, UMBC 2

  • Stony Brook moved into a tie for first with New Hampshire after notching a five-set win over UMBC on Friday night. The teams split the season series with each team winning on its home court.
  • UMBC won the first and third sets to take a 2-1 lead in the match, but Stony Brook fought back to win the fourth and fifth sets.
  • The Seawolves recorded 105 digs, a match-high for any America East team this season, and held UMBC to .090 hitting.
  • Melissa Rigo had 16 kills and 24 digs while Kaitlin Costello notched 19 kills and 19 digs to pace Stony Brook.

  • Binghamton hit a season-high .356 in the match. Four different players had at-least eight kills, led by Kristin Hovie's 11 kills and .391 hitting percentage.
  • The Bearcats committed only six errors in the match compared to 13 for Albany.

Sunday, October 27

  • After losing the first set of the match, Hartford fought back to win three-straight and top Providence, 3-1, to split the season series.
  • Jackie Tamburri quarterbacked the Hartford attack to a .274 hitting percentage with 49 assists as well as 20 digs for a double-double.
  • Sareeta Nethersole led the Hawks with 15 kills and also had 18 digs for a double-double.
  • Hartford held Providence to .161 hitting and registered 10 blocks in the match.
