CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Just one weekend remains in the America East women’s soccer regular-season and four teams clinched playoff spots on Sunday including Hartford, Maine, UMBC and Stony Brook. Here is a look at the weekly award winners for week nine:
Player of the Week
Alexa Quaranta, So., UMBC
Baltimore, Md.
- Led the conference with three goals while adding one assist to total seven points in a 1-1-0 week for UMBC.
- Scored a goal and added an assist in an OT win over Stony Brook, handing the Seawolves their first home loss of the season.
- Scored both goals in a 3-2 overtime loss at UMass Lowell.
- Helped UMBC clinch first playoff spot since 2005.
Rookie of the Week
Jessica Jurg, Fr., Hartford
Annen, The Netherlands/Zernike Junior College
- Jurg completed her league-leading seventh and eighth shutouts of the season with a pair of 2-0 wins over Binghamton and Vermont.
- Totaled nine saves including a career-high in the first game of the week against the Bearcats.
- Helped Hartford take sole possession of first place.
- Jurg ranks among the nation’s leaders in goals-against-average (0.52) and save percentage (.870).
Around the League
- Hartford, Maine, UMBC and Stony Brook clinched four of the six spots in the America East Championship.
- UMBC clinched a spot in the America East Championship for the first time since 2005.
- Stony Brook qualified for the America East Championship for the seventh time in eight years.
- Hartford will make its fourth-straight appearance in the America East Championship.
- Maine has now made the tournament in back-to-back seasons after missing the tournament in 2010 and 2011.
