2-1 Teams Battle on Friday as 3rd Weekend of #AEVB Begins

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Volleyball conference play enters the third weekend of action and five teams are tied atop the standings with 2-1 records. Four of those teams will faceoff on Friday night including Providence visitng New Hampshire and UMBC heading to Albany. Friday, Oct. 11

Stony Brook (8-11, 2-1) at Binghamton (1-2, 3-13) - 5 pm

  • Binghamton hosts Stony Brook for the Bearcats homecoming weekend.
  • The Bearcats defeated the Seawolves in five sets in both meetings last year.
  • Stony Brook is in a five-way tie for first at 2-1 in conference play while the Bearcats are looking to get back on track after dropping two of their first three in the America East.
  • Stony Brook is third in the league during conference play, holding opponents to a .177 hitting percentage.

UMBC (11-7, 2-1) at Albany (2-13, 2-1) - 7 pm

  • UMBC hits the road for the first time in conference play as they travel to preseason favorite Albany.
  • The Retrievers snapped a 13-match losing streak to the Great Danes last season, defeating Albany in four sets at the RAC Arena on Nov. 2.
  • Both teams are 2-1 in conference play entering the weekend.
  • Albany has six players with 40 kills this season, led by freshman Amanda Dolan who ranks seventh with a .227 hitting percentage.

Providence at New Hampshire - 7 pm

  • Providence and New Hampshire meet in Durham in a battle between 2-1 teams.
  • The Friars are having one of their best seasons since joining America East and lead the conference in digs per set with a 15.52 average.
  • New Hampshire is coming off a win at UMBC last weekend and leads the conference in hitting percentage during conference play at .225.

  • Hartford is coming off a four-set win over Binghamton in its last match and boast the reigning America East Player of the Week, Dionna Kirton, who averaged nearly five kills per set over two matches.
  • The River Hawks are in search of their first Division I win. Carolyn Eddy has been consisten all season for UMass Lowell, ranking seventh in the conference with 3.65 digs per set.
  • The Hawks are third in the league, holding opponents to a .205 hitting percentage.
