CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -
Wednesday marks the third playing day of America East Conference women's
basketball action with another full slate of games, as four games match-up
eight teams.
Boston University (12-3, 2-0) and Vermont (4-10, 1-0) get
the day started with a rare 5 p.m. weekday tipoff. The Terriers look to become
the first team in the conference to reach the 3-0 mark in conference play with
Albany idle, while Vermont is trying to carry momentum from its
conference-opening win over New Hampshire. Boston U.'s 9-game winning streak is
the fifth longest in all of Division I and the terriers are beating teams by an
average of 16.6 points per game during that stretch. The Catamounts are the
second-leading rebounding team in the America East, averaging 39.0 rebounds per
game.
Stony Brook (9-6, 1-1) hosts Binghamton (2-13, 1-1) at
Pritchard Gym for a 7 p.m. tip. The game will air locally on Optimum 118. The
Seawolves are coming off a 48-44 win over New Hampshire, with Chikilra Gooman
tallying 18 points to lead the way. Binghamton defeated Hartford before losing
to Albany last week. The Bearcats own a 14-7 advantage in the all-time series
for Stony Brook.
UMBC (5-10, 1-1) takes a trip to New Hampshire (5-9, 0-2) in
search of its first set of back-to-back wins since opening the season 2-0. The
Wildcats are 3-2 at home this season, while the Retrievers are looking for
their first road win of the year. Cari Reed leads New Hampshire with 12.7
points per game, which also ranks third in the conference.
Maine (1-13, 0-1) hosts Hartford (9-6, 0-2) at 7:30 p.m. at
Alfond Arena. The Hawks are trying to avoid going to 0-3 in conference play for
the second-straight season. Hartford dropped games to Binghamton and Boston U.
to start the conference schedule. The Hawks have been missing starting guard
Amber Bepko for the last five games. Maine is trying to snap a 10-game losing
streak. The Black Bears are also playing just their fourth home game of the
season and the first since Nov. 24.
