CAMBRIDGE,
Mass. - In the only America East women's
basketball game on Tuesday night, New Hampshire got past Maine, 61-54, at
Lundholm Gymnasium.
The Wildcats
(8-12, 3-5) won its second-straight America East conference game, and
sixth-straight over Maine (2-19, 1-7) with the victory. Kaylee Kirkpatrick and
Cari Reed each scored 16 points to lead the way for New Hampshire, while Morgan
Frame pulled down 12 rebounds.
Maine was
led by a season-high 14 points and seven rebounds by Ashleigh Roberts. The Black
Bears actually outshot the Wildcats 41.8-percent to 37.1-percent, and outscored
New Hampshire 38-24 in the paint. New Hampshire, however, held a 41-35
rebounding edge and hit 11-of-15 free throws.
Maine used a
10-0 run in the second half to tie the game at 39 with just over 13 minutes in
the game. But New Hampshire went on a 13-4 run over the next eight minutes to
take a nine-point lead with five minutes to play and never led by fewer than
six after that point.
Wednesday
night has three America East games on tap, with all three tipping off at 7 p.m.
Albany (16-3. 7-0) looks to build on its eight-game winning streak, battling
SUNY rival Stony Brook (11-9, 3-4) at Pritchard Gym. Binghamton (3-17, 2-5)
makes the trip to Baltimore to battle UMBC (6-14, 2-5). Hartford (13-7, 4-3)
rounds out the schedule at Vermont (7-13, 4-3) in an important game between a
pair of 4-3 conference teams.
