CAMBRIDGE,
Mass. - Albany, Boston U., Maine and New
Hampshire picked-up wins in America East women's basketball conference play on
Saturday.
The Great
Danes (16-3, 7-0) remained unblemished in America East play with a 59-32 win
over Vermont (7-13, 4-3), 59-32, in a game that was broadcast nationally on
ESPN3. Vermont jumped out to an early five point lead, forcing Albany into
early turnovers to take a 9-4 advantage. Albany battled back to take a 12-11
lead, and then lead for good after a Lindsey Lowrie 3-pointer put the home side
on top 16-13 with 7:21 to go.
In the
contest, Albany's Ebone Henry broke a 27-year-old record, becoming Albany's
all-time leading scorer with 1,494 points after scoring a game-high 21.
Boston U.
(17-4, 7-1) head coach Kelly Greenberg won her 250th career game as
the Terriers bounced-back from their loss to Albany with a 63-49 road win at
UMBC ( 6-14, 2-5). Chantell Alford and Rashidat Agboola combined for 39 points,
as Agboola scored a game-high 21 points to go with nine rebounds. After leading by one point at halftime,
Boston U. used a 22-4 run to open the second half and take a 56-39 lead with
8:12 to play.
Maine (2-18,
1-6) earned its first conference win, topping Stony Brook (11-9, 3-4), 67-51,
at home and ending its 15-game losing skid. Freshman Liz Wood continued her
stellar play, notching 12 points, nine rebounds and four steals. Maine jumped
out to an early 11-point lead with an 11-0 run in the first half. The Black
Bears pushed the advantage to 14 before half and led by as many as 23 in the
second half.
Morgan Frame
scored a season-high 23 points to help New Hampshire (7-12, 2-5) snap its
three-game losing streak with a 60-52 win at Binghamton (3-17, 2-5). Frame was
8-of-14 from the floor and made 7-of-8 free throws to go with four assists,
three steals and a block.
The Wildcats
led by as many as 15 at 48-33, but a 13-3 run helped Binghamton battle back to
within five with 3:36 left. UNH hit 5-of-6 free throws in the final 1:30 to
close out the win.
