CAMBRIDGE,
Mass. - Albany and Boston University both stayed unbeaten in conference play
with wins on Saturday, while Vermont and Hartford also picked up victories as
part of a full day of America East play.
Vermont
(5-11, 2-1) improved to 2-1 in league play by edging UMBC (5-12, 1-3), 63-60,
at Patrick Gymnasium. The Catamounts moved to 5-1 at home this season while the
Retrievers are still in search of their first road win.
After
leading by just one at halftime, Vermont built an 11-point lead midway through
the second half after a Niki Taylor free throw made it 49-38 with 10:30 left.
Taylor led the Catamounts with 15 points while Lauren Buschmann pulled down 14
rebounds.
UMBC slowly
chipped away at the Catamount lead, using an 11-2 run to come within one at
54-53 after a Brittany Crowell 3-pointer with 3:20 left. Crowell had 17 points
while Raven Harris had 22 points and eight assists. Vermont responded with four
straight to make it 58-53. The Retrievers had a chance to tie it down three
with 4.1 seconds left, but could not get a shot off.

(14-3, 4-0) won its 11th-straight game, holding on for a 57-52 win
over Binghamton (2-15, 1-3). Chantell Alford led the Terriers with 16 points
and eight rebounds, while Sherae Swinson led the Bearcats with 16 points.

by two at halftime, Boston U. took a double-digit lead on a Molly McKendrick

extended the lead to 10 once again after an Alford jumper with just over eight
minutes remaining. Binghamton continued
to fight, coming as close as three with a minute remaining, but a Danielle
Callahan jumper with 52 seconds left sealed it for Boston U.
Hartford
(11-6, 2-2) won its second-straight conference game, defeating Stony Brook
(10-7, 2-2), 59-43. The game was knotted at 24 at halftime, but a strong second
half by the Hawks on both ends of the floor propelled them to the win. Stony
Brook held a 33-30 lead with 13:54 left following a free throw by Sabre
Proctor, but a 21-4 run by the Hawks opened up a 51-37 lead for the home side
after a layup by Ruthanne Doherty at the 5:04 mark. Daphne Elliott led Hartford
with 19 points in the contest.
