CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — America East Commissioner Amy Huchthausen announced today that Jared Hager will join the conference staff as the Director for Strategic Media. Hager, who will start September 12, has worked at three Division I universities as well a conference office.
“Jared will be a great addition to our staff,” said Huchthausen. “His enthusiasm, paired with his experience, particularly with social media strategy implementation, will be an asset for us as we focus on our brand awareness and messaging this year.”
In his new role, Hager will assist America East in the development and integration of its strategic media plan across all platforms, including its social media entities. He will also help coordinate communications, branding and marketing initiatives through championships, corporate partners and other external opportunities as well as serve as the primary communications contact for women’s basketball, women’s soccer, volleyball, women’s lacrosse and baseball.
“I am very excited and grateful for the opportunity to work for a conference that has been so successful both athletically and academically,” said Hager. “The America East has a storied history, and I am excited to help the conference and its member institutions continue to grow their brands on a national scale.”
With six years of experience working in college athletics, Hager spent the last year as the Assistant Director of Communications at Loyola University in Maryland. There, he served as the primary communications contact in several sports, creating promotional materials, writing press releases, corresponding with media members and serving as the gameday contact for those sports. Additionally, Hager influenced the Greyhounds’ social media strategy and helped execute that strategy during a successful year that saw Loyola win the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) men’s basketball title and the school’s first-ever national championship in men’s lacrosse.
Prior to joining Loyola’s staff, Hager spent the 2010-11 season as a communications assistant at the BIG EAST, where he was the primary contact for select sports, including baseball and volleyball, and was a secondary contact for men’s basketball, assisting with day-to-day operations. He’s also worked an athletic media relations assistant at the University of Massachusetts and was an athletic communications assistant at Bryant University.
A native of Franklin, Mass., Hager earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration with a marketing/finance concentration from Bryant in 2008 and also served as a sports marketing intern for the Bulldogs as an undergraduate. Hager also received a Master of Science degree in sport management from UMass in 2011.
