CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- It took only three weeks for an America East field hockey standout to repeat as the conference's Player of the Week as Fairfield University's Felicitas Heinen picked up the honor for the second straight week after tallying seven points in a pair of wins. The weekly awards for the period ending Sept. 9 were announced Monday morning.
Taking home the other weekly honors were University of Maine's Alicia Frisch, who was tabbed Defensive Player of the Week, and University of New Hampshire's Meg Flatley, who's the second straight Wildcat to receive Rookie of the Week recognition.
Heinen (Munich, Germany) tallied three goals and an assist in a pair of Fairfield wins for the second straight week en route to back-to-back Player of the Week nods. The sophomore defender, who tallied a staggering 18 shots in the two games, scored twice and added an assist in the Stags' 4-2 win over Lehigh on Friday. Heinen, who leads America East in points (17) and goals (7), added her third score of the week in Sunday's 2-1 win over Saint Joseph's, which proved to be the game winner for the Stags, who have won four straight games after starting 0-2.
Frisch (Calgary, Alberta) stopped nine of the 11 shots she faced in leading Maine to a pair of wins last week and earned Defensive Player of the Week honors as a result. The senior goalkeeper made three saves, including two after halftime, in her team's 2-1 comeback win over Rutgers on Friday. She then made a career-best six stops in leading the Black Bears to a 2-1 win over Bryant on Sunday. For the week, Frisch had tied for a league-best 1.00 goals-against average and ranked second with a .818 save percentage.
Flatley (Townsend, Mass.) scored three times over two games to pick up her first career Rookie of the Week honor. Flatley's teammate, Meg Carroll, earned the honor last week. A redshirt-freshman forward, Flatley scored in the 10th minute in a 3-2 loss to second-ranked Syracuse on Friday, then set the tone early in her team's 8-3 victory over Holy Cross on Sunday as she scored twice in the first 8:29 of the game.
