Former Boston University men's basketball standout John Holland has landed a spot on the Oklahoma City Thunder's NBA Summer League roster. The 2011 America East Player of the Year and his 12 teammates will represent the reigning Western Conference champions in Orlando, Fla., for five games on Monday, July 9 - Friday, July 13.
Looking to fulfill his dream of signing a NBA contract, Holland played this past season with Chorale Roanne in France's top league. He finished second on the team in scoring at 14.1 ppg while shooting 54.6 percent from the field and 41.2 percent from behind the arc. He also averaged 4.6 rebounds, 1.3 steals and 1.9 assists per game.
A 6-foot-5, 205-pound guard/forward combo player from Bronx, N.Y., Holland finished his career as just the second in America East history alongside NBA star Reggie Lewis to have at least 2,000 points, 700 rebounds and 200 steals.
A three-time First Team All-Conference honoree, he repeated as the league's scoring champion at 19.2 ppg in 2011 and also led BU in rebounding at 5.8 rpg. That same season, he picked up the program's fourth-ever Player of the Year award before the start of the conference tournament and followed with his 10th-career double-double (27 pts., 11 rebs.) in the title game for the championship's Most Outstanding Player honor.
During the second half against Stony Brook, Holland single-handedly cut a 15-point deficit to one and scored the last two points of the game with two seconds remaining from the free throw line for the 56-54 victory.
Tallying a game-high 19 points against Kansas in the second round of the NCAAs, he was recognized by the Associated Press as an All-America Honorable Mention and was also placed on the Lou Henson "Mid-Major" All-America Team.
Fans will be able to watch all of the summer league games live on NBA TV and online by clicking here. Holland will be wearing jersey number 25.
