BERKELEY, Calif. -- After picking up America East's sixth NCAA softball win in as many years, Boston University was eliminated from the 2012 tournament by top overall seed California late Saturday night. Earlier in the day, the Terriers defeated MAAC-champion Iona in an instant classic, downing the Gaels, 4-3 in 13 innings. Boston U. opened the tournament with a narrow 3-2 loss to Arkansas on Friday.

Boston U. (41-16), which captured its third America East title in four years to earn an NCAA automatic bid, got an RBI single from Amy Ekart in the home half of the 13th to beat the Gaels. The win, the league's sixth NCAA victory since 2007, gives the conference wins in four of the last six tournaments.

The Terriers, whose 41 wins are their second most in program history, then had to face the Bears, who were upset by the Razorbacks earlier in the day, and fell 8-0.
