CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Outdoor track and field weekly award winners posted solid weekends in final preparation for this weekend’s America East Championship in Orono, Maine. Boston University’s R.J. Page (Swedesboro, N.J./Kingsway Regional) takes home the Male Track Performer of the Week award while Maine’s Corey Conner (Townsend, Mass./Middlesex Regional) picks up the same honor on the women’s side. New Hampshire throwers sweep the Field Performer of the Week awards as Brice Paey (Milton, N.H./St. Thomas) and Rosemary Read (West Greenwich, R.I./Warwick) grab the awards.

Page ran a conference-best time of 10.65 seconds in the 100-meter dash at the Penn Relays to highlight an impressive weekend for the Terrier. His performance in the 100 placed him fourth overall in the College Men’s Division. Page was also part of the 4x400 relay team that broke its own school record with a time of 3:08.85 and finished second in the IC4A Final.

Conner won the 5,000-meter run in the College Women’s Division at the Penn Relays on Thursday night. The senior blew away the competition winning by over 15 seconds as she crossed the finish line in 16:01.37. She broke her own school record which she set earlier this season and her time ranks eighth in the East region and 23rd in the nation this spring.

Paey took part in a pair of meets during the week, competing in the shot put at the Penn Relays and at the Wildcat Invitational II. At Penn, Paey took seventh in the 26-thrower field of the College Division with a toss of 17.04 meters. The next day, Paey won the event in Durham and heads into the conference championship with the top throw in the conference this season.

Read won the hammer throw at the Wildcat Invitational II with an ECAC-qualifying toss of 173’11.” That throw is a season best for the junior and ranks second in the conference this spring. 

The Albany women’s track and field team collected eight first-place finishes at the Capital District Classic hosted by RPI on Saturday. Five of those eight wins came in field events led by Catherine Coxon (Delanson, N.Y./Duanesburg) who placed first in the discus. Coxon posted a mark of 43.80 meters qualifying for the ECAC Championships. On the track, Tynelle Taylor-Chase (Whitby, Ontario/Notre Dame Catholic Secondary) finished first in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.41 second to highlight the track victories for the Great Danes. The Albany women also competed at the Penn Relays with the 4x400 relay team breaking a school record finishing in 3:43.38. On the men’s side, Albany took first in six events at the Capital District Classic. Highlighting that effort was a strong showing in the 800 as Tyler Fogarty (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) led the charge with a time of 1:54.96. The Great Danes took eight of the first ten spots in the event. At the Penn Relays, Alfonso Scannapieco (Mohegan Lake, N.Y./Lakeland-Panas) finished fourth in the College Men’s Pole Vault Championship clearing 5.05 meters.

Binghamton
sent select competitors to two different meets over the weekend. At the Penn Relays, freshman Jesse Garn (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus), sophomore Chris Fernandez (Charlton, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake), junior Casey Gilbert (Berlin, N.Y./Berlin Central) and senior Erik van Ingen (Cortland, N.Y./Marathon) teamed up to place third overall in the College Men’s Distance Medley. The Bearcat quartet clocked in at a time of 9:43.08, which shaved over two second off the 2011 school record. In addition to setting the school record, Binghamton defeated teams from traditional distance running powers such as Oregon, Villanova and Texas, which had combined to win the race the previous six years. On Sunday, the rest of the Binghamton squad competed at the Cornell Big Red Invitational. Freshman Collin Frost (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) won the men’s 5,000 (14:57.45) while Jessica Hennig (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush) captured the women’s 200 (25.33). There was no team scoring at either meet.

The Boston University men’s track and field team competed at both the Penn Relays and the Brown Springtime Open this past weekend. The Terriers had a record-setting day at the Penn Relays as the 4x400 relay team broke its own school record with a time of 3:08.85. The quartet finished second in the IC4A finals, just 16 hundredths of a second behind Delaware State. R.J. Page finished fourth in the 100-meter dash with a conference-best time of 10.65 seconds. At Brown, Rich Peters (Bristol, England/Brimsham Green School) finished first in the 800 (1:51.31). In the field, Connor Sullivan (Easton, Mass./Oliver Ames) led the way finishing second in the high jump (2.06m). The Terrier women competed at Brown and Shelby Walton (Danbury, Conn./Danbury) sprinted to a first-place time of 11.93 seconds in the 100-meter dash. She also placed fourth the long jump (5.19m). The Boston U. 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams each placed second.

The Hartford men’s and women’s track & field teams competed at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa., Wednesday and Thursday and at the Yale Springtime Invitational in New Haven, Conn., on Sunday. There was no team scoring at either event. At the Penn Relays, the men’s distance medley relay team cracked the top-20, coming in 17th with a time of 10:53.85 while the 4x200-meter relay finished 37th with a school-record time of 1:30.40. The women’s 4x100m relay team rounded the course with a time of 48.78. At Yale, the Hawk men got strong performance out of Cody Adamson (Scituate, Mass./Scituate) who notched a school record in the 110 hurdles finishing sixth in the event with a time of 15.96 seconds. On the women’s side, Priscilla Appiagyei (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor) finished 3rd in the 200-meter dash at 25.90 and Nicolle Adams (Schoharie, N.Y./Schoharie) finished third in the 100 hurdles (15.44) and fourth in the long jump (5.43m).

Maine’s Corey Conner won the 5,000-meter run in the College Division at the Penn Relays over the weekend to highlight the Black Bear’s weekend of competition. Conner finished with a time of 16:01.37 to top the field. At the non-scoring Wildcat Invitational, Katy Grime (Brownington, Vt.) took second in the discus with a mark of 130.’ Also in the field, Angelica Nelligan-Smith (Glenburn, Maine/John Bapst) notched a top-5 school mark in the pole vault clearing 10’8.75” to take second. On the men’s side at UNH, James Berry (Orono, Maine/Orono) won the pole vault to lead Maine with a mark of 14’3.25,” which ranks among the top-10 in school history. Liam Nee (Cornish, Maine) took fourth in the 800 with a time of 1:58.20 while Ryan Hardiman (Brookline, Mass./Brookine) was sixth in the 1,500 in 4:04.10.

The UMBC track and field teams competed at the Penn relays this past weekend breaking two school records. On Friday, the quartet of Paulette Fogle (Washington, D.C./Bishop McNamara), Lauren Leclerq (Jessup, Md./Meade), Debora Adelola (Lanham, Md./Bladensburg) and Cody Mezebish (Westminster, Md./South Carroll) cruised past the UMBC record in the sprint medley relay with a time of 4:04.37, breaking the record of 4:06.36 set last seaon. The 4x200 relay team also broke the school record, running a 1:38.04 on Saturday. For the men, Cameron McDearmon (Owings Mills, Md./Franklin) and Shioma Obemeata (New Rochelle, N.Y./Iona Prep/St. Francis) each picked up top-15 finishes in field events. McDearman registered a 52.04-meter toss in the hammer throw which was good for 13th place. Obemeata, meanwhile, finished 11th in the triple jump (14.07m).

New Hampshire took part in the Penn Relays last week before hosting the Wildcat Invitational II in a non-scoring meet to wrap up the home season. On the women’s side at the Penn Relays, Keely Maguire (Georgetown, Mass.) finished sixth in the College Division of the 3,000, crossing the finish line in a time of 9:33.76. Maguire, the lone UNH women’s competitor, set a new school record in the event and also qualified for the ECAC Championships. For the men, Brice Paey posted a seventh-place finish in the College Shot Put Division with a toss of 17.04 meters. The distance medley teams also finished seventh overall with a time of 10:06.62. Back in Durham, Allison Brehm (Pembroke, N.H.) won the 100-meter dash for the UNH women running an 11.86, and with the benefit of a strong tail wind, recorded the fastest time by a UNH women’s sprinter in any weather this season. Brehm also took the top spot in the 200-meter dash topping the field of 19 with a time of 25.31. Rosemary Read and Danica Goodheart (Meredith, N.H.) each won a field event with Read taking first in the hammer throw (173’11”) and Goodheart claiming the triple jump (37’10”). On the men’s side, Paey returned to win the shot put at UNH while Tyler Dinnan (Juneau, Alaska) won the 1,500 in 3:59.31.

A trio of Stony Brook women competed on day one of the Penn Relays. Senior Patricia Barry (Tipperary, Ireland/University of Limerick) captured fourth place in the college women’s 10,000 championship. Barry ran the race in an ECAC-qualifying 35:35.45, finishing ahead of runners from the likes of Indiana, Syracuse and Iona. In the college women’s 3,000 steeplechase, senior Carolina Cortes (Woodmere, N.Y./Valley Stream South) placed ninth in 10:44.10 while Annie Keown (Aukland, New Zealand/Aukland Girls Grammar) finished 20th in the 3,000 (10:01.38). At the Yale Springtime Invitational on Sunday, Mary O’Connor (Waterford, Ireland/St. Angela’s Secondary School) finished second in the 400 (58.89). Leading the way for the men at Yale was Matt Granata (Levittown, N.Y./MacArthur/Connecticut), who won his heat in the 400 (50.46) and finished second overall.

Vermont
traveled to New Hampshire for the Wildcat Invitational II over the weekend. The Catamount women won a total of three events and UVM had four athletes set personal records. Julie McGilpin (Westfield, Mass./Westfield) won the 400-meter dash with a time of 59.08 as UVM took four of the top five overall spots in the event. Mary Krug (Essex Junction, Vt./Essex) cleared a height of 3.42 meters in the pole vault to get the win. Kirsten Weberg (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) was the other winner as she took the women’s 1,500 with a time of 4:39.61. For the UVM men, Ethan McBrien (Dublin, N.H./Contoocook Valley Regional) finished second overall in the 800 at UNH with a person record time of 1:57.75. In the field, Sam Chevalier (Williston, Vt./Champlain Valley) had an impressive showing clearing 4.05 meters in the pole vault to place third.
