NAMPA, Idaho -- Stony Brook senior Lucy Van Dalen won the mile at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Boise, Idaho Saturday (March 10) night giving the Seawolves their first national champion. Van Dalen crossed the finish line in 4:39.76 to hold off Aisha Prout of Illinois State (4:39.85).
Van Dalen, who is the first America East national champion since Binghamton's Rory Quiller won the pole vault at the 2008 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, later finished 10th in the 3,000 meters (9:20.27) to earn All-America honors in that event. She is the second America East female to become the national champion in the mile joining Boston University's Jennifer Lanctot, who won the event in 1992.
Boston University sophomore Rich Peters earned All-America honors in the mile after finishing as the runner-up with a time of 4:01.78, just 0.12 seconds behind national champion Chris O'Hare of Tulsa.
Binghamton senior Erik van Ingen finished seventh in the mile (4:02.70) and was named an All-American.
Boston University junior Allison Barwise also earned All-America honors with a fifth-place finish in the high jump (1.81 meters).
