Wednesday's meeting will be the second this year between the Catamounts (9-13, 3-6 AE) and Terriers (15-6, 8-0 AE). The first meeting on Jan. 4 in Burlington went Boston U.'s way 61-60, but only after Vermont rallied back from 19 points down to create some drama down the stretch.
Vermont juniors Lauren Buschmann and Lauren Wheeler combined for 32 points and 15 rebounds last time against the Terriers, however both have sustained injuries since and won't be in action.
The Catamounts, who have been forced to use its youth, have been starting three freshmen, sophomore Sam Simononis and junior Shanai Heber. On Saturday at Stony Brook, the rookie trio of Niki Taylor, Kayla Burchill and Tierra Shumpert combined for 43 points and 22 rebounds. Burchill posted her first career double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds and earned America East Rookie of the Week.
Conversely, first-place Boston U. has a veteran group led by junior Chantell Alford. Alford leads the team with 12.4 ppg and registered 13 points, two assists, two blocks and two steals on Jan. 4. Junior point guard Mo Moran netted a team-high 19 points earlier against the Catamounts.
Two more games Wednesday night will air live on regional stations. At 7 p.m., Stony Brook visits Binghamton in a SUNY rivalry game available on Time Warner Cable Sports. New Hampshire travels to the site of the 2012 America East Championship to play Hartford in a 7 p.m. game on CPTV Sports broadcast throughout Connecticut.
Rounding out Wednesday night's action, second-place Albany and third-place UMBC will tangle in Baltimore.
