CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Stony Brook's Chikilra Goodman had 19 points and 16 rebounds to pace the Seawolves past Sacred Heart, 51-46, in the long America East contest on Wednesday night.
It was Stony Brook's (4-3) second win of the year over a team either ranked or receiving votes in the Mid-Major Top-25.The Pioneers were No. 24 in the latest poll.
The Seawolves recorded 50 rebounds for the second time this season, outrebounding Sacred Heart 50-29.
After Sacred Heart (4-4) took a 26-21 lead into the half, the Seawolves
(4-3) opened the second stanza on an 15-0 run to pull ahead 36-26 with
14:30 to play. The Pioneers then responded with a 14-4 run of their own
to tie the score at 40-40 with six minutes left.
The teams promptly traded leads until the 3:00 mark, before a big three-pointer from sophomore Sabre Proctor
(Harrisburg, Pa.) put Stony Brook ahead by four at 47-43. The Seawolves
never relinquished the advantage and held on for the victory.
Six women's teams take to the hardwood on Wednesday night beginning at 5:30 p.m. with New Hampshire hosting Dartmouth. The Wildcats boast the conference's second leading scorer in Cari Reed who is averaging 14.1 points per game.
The early evening action continues with Maine visiting Siena at 6 p.m. in a game that will be televised regionally on Time Warner Cable.
Four games then follow at 7 p.m., including Albany in search of its fourth-straight win at La Salle. Boston U. hosts intra-strate rival Massachusetts at Case Gym, UMBC visits VCU and Vermont is at Central Connecticut to round out the action.
