Mass. - After leading
the Terriers to the Christmas City Classic title, Boston University senior
guard Mo Moran was named America East women's basketball Player of the Week for
the first time this year. Maine freshman Liz Wood earned Rookie of the Week
honors for the second time this season, the conference office announced Monday.
Moran (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) continued to be steady at the
point guard position for Boston University, averaging a very balanced 14
points, eight assists, three rebounds and two steals per game. She was named
Christmas City Classic Most Valuable Player, helping the Terriers to wins over
Fairleigh Dickinson and Lehigh to capture the tournament title. Boston U. is
off to its best start under ninth-year head coach Kelly Greenberg with a 10-3
non-conference record. Moran started the weekend with 12 points and nine
assists in a win over Fairleigh Dickinson, and followed that with 16 points,
including four 3-pointers, to go with seven assists against Lehigh. She totaled
16 assists and just three turnovers for the weekend, leading the conference in
assists per game and assist-to-turnover ratio for the week.
Wood (Catlett, Va.) earned her second America East Rookie of the
Week honor, notching her second career double-double with 11 points and 10
rebounds in a loss at Towson. Wood also added five assists, two blocks and one
steal in the contest. Wood had seven points and five rebounds in a loss at
James Madison. For the week, she led freshmen in rebounding with 7.5 boards per
game and ranked second in scoring with 9.0 points per game.
