Albany's Henry, Richards Sweep America East Women's Basketball Weekly Honors

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - University at Albany senior Ebone Henry earned America East women's basketball Player of the Week honors for the first time this year, while teammate Shereesha Richards was named Rookie of the Week as the Great Danes swept the conference's weekly awards, the conference office announced on Monday.

Henry (San Diego, Calif.) was outstanding in her return to her home state, helping Albany finish third in the Beach Classic in Long Beach, Calif. She led the conference in scoring, averaging 24.5 points per game as the Great Danes went 1-1. The senior also averaged 6.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game. In an overtime loss to Sam Houston State, Henry scored a career-high 29 points on 12-of-25 shooting from the floor, including four 3-pointers. She also added seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals. In a win against Canisius, Henry scored 20 points to go along with five boards, five helpers, three steals, and one block. She shot 46.5 percent (20-43) in the two games.

Richards (Oceanview, N.J.) earned her third-straight Rookie of the Week after averaging 8.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game in the two contests. After a slow outing in the overtime loss to Sam Houston State, where she managed just two points, two rebounds, one assist, and one steal, Richards was back to form against Canisius. She scored 15 points against the Golden Griffins, to go along with seven boards and a career-high seven assists. Richards shot 57.1 percent (8-14) from the floor in the two games, and did not commit a turnover in 33 total minutes of action.
