CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Only two America East teams took the floor on Saturday in the final contests before Christmas Break. America East teams won't be back in action until Dec. 28.
Hartford (8-3) hosted No. 2 Connecticut for the first time in school history and sold out the Chase Family Arena for the first time during regular-season play.
The Huskies shot lights out in the contest, firing at a 62.3-percent clip including 11-of-20 from three-point range. Hartford was led by Daphne Elliott's 10 points.
Prior to the game, Hartford recognized those affected by the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., with a moment of silence where a bell was rung 26 times for the 26 victims. The teams were joined by children from the Newtown Boys and Girls Youth Basketball Association.
Cari Reed recorded her third double-double of the season with team
highs in both points (12) and rebonds (10), but New
Hampshire (5-6) was defeated 58-47 by Cleveland State. The Wildcats hung close, coming within two at 42-40 with less than eight minutes to go in the game, but the Vikings continued to respond with big buckets. New Hampshire was down just six with three minutes to go, but was held scoreless for the remainder of the game.
