CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Stony Brook shot a season-high 55.8-percent from the floor and scored a season-high 65 points as the Seawolves defeated Saint Francis Brooklyn, 65-52, in the lone women's basketball game on Wednesday night.
The victory improved Stony Brook to 7-4 on the year, which is tied for the program's best start since 2005-06 when the team won eight of its first 12 games.
Stony Brook held St. Francis (2-7) to just 31.7% shooting in the
first half and opened up a 28-18 lead at the break. The Terriers cut the
deficit to five in the opening minutes of the second stanza, but the
Seawolves quickly responded with buckets by Dani Klupenger and Teasha Harris to
stretch the advantage back to double digits. Stony Brook led by as many
as 14 midway through the half and never relinquished its lead in a
13-point win.
Harris led all scorers with 17 points while Jessica Previlon had 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Thursday night sees Albany (8-2) put its six-game winning streak on the line in its opening game of the Beach Classic against Sam Houston State. The Great Danes have beaten teams by an average of 24.7 points per game during their winning streak.
Vermont (3-8) is looking to snap a three-game losing skid as the Catamounts take a trip to Boston College for a 7 p.m. tip.
