junior Chikilra Goodman recorded a pair of double-doubles to earn her first
career America East women's basketball Player of the Week honor, while Albany's
Shereesha Richards was named Rookie of the Week as the conference office
announced the weekly awards for the week ending Dec. 9.
Goodman (Philadelphia, Pa.) was unstoppable for the
Seawolves, leading the conference in both scoring (18.0 ppg) and rebounding
(14.0 rpg) last week to help Stony Brook to a pair of wins over Sacred Heart
and at Fordham. On
Tuesday against the Pioneers, Goodman corralled her first-career double-double
with 19 points and 16 rebounds (8-for-10 shooting) in a 51-46 Stony Brook win.
She followed that effort with another double-double against Fordham on
Saturday, racking up 17 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals in a 58-46
win in the Bronx, N.Y. It was Stony Brook's first win over an Atlantic 10 foe
since a 58-56 win over No. 19 Temple on Dec. 7, 2005. Goodman's efforts helped
Stony Brook improve to 5-3 on the season, already exceeding the team's win
total from last year.
Richards (Oceanview, N.J.) had a breakout game in the Great Danes' win
over La Salle on Wednesday. The freshman forward came off the bench to score 17
points, going 7-of-9 from the floor and 3-for-3 from the free throw line. She
also grabbed four rebounds and recorded three steals, one assist, and one
block, in 22 minutes of action. In a win over Canisius on Saturday, Richards
scored four points and grabbed two boards in eight minutes of action. For the
week, she led all freshmen with 10.5 points per game, shooting at a 64.0 clip,
and averaged 3.0 rebounds.
