CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - After registering a career week and leading
the conference in scoring, Albany sophomore Megan Craig earned her first career
America East women's basketball Player of the Week honor, the conference office
announced Monday. Hartford freshman Katie Roth was named Rookie of the Week.
Craig (Whangerai, New Zealand) led the conference in
scoring (19.5 ppg) and field goal percentage (64.3) to help Albany to a 1-1
record last week. The sophomore also averaged six rebounds per game. In a
mid-week game at Michigan State, the sophomore scored 12 points and pulled down
three rebounds in 20 minutes of action. In a home win over Dartmouth on
Saturday, Craig scored a career-high 27 points in 31 minutes, and just missed
out on her first career double-double with nine rebounds. The center also
finished with one assist and one block against the Big Green to lead the Great
Danes to victory.
Roth (Castleton, N.Y.) finished second among freshmen in
scoring last week with 9.5 points per game while also averaging 5.5 rebounds.
She opened the two-game week for Hartford with a career-high 17 points,
matching the season high for all Hawks, in the road win at Umass. The freshman
opened that game scoring her first six field goal attempts, while she finished
6-of-7 overall and 5-of-8 at the line. She also added four rebounds and two
blocks, the only two blocks for Hartford all week. In the final game of the
week, she finished with just two points but led the Hawks with seven rebounds
in the loss to No. 18/16 St. John's.
