CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Chantell Alford scored a career-high 30 points as Boston University was barely edged out by No. 14/22 West Virginia on Monday night at Case Gym in the lone America East contest of the night.
Alford made a pair of free throws to tie the game, 57-57, with 29
seconds remaining in regulation, but West Virginia’s Ayana Dunning
connected on three-of-four opportunities from the charity stripe in the
final seconds give the Mountaineers the lead. Alford attempted a
last-second half-court shot that hit the rim as time expired and WVU
secured the 60-57 victory.
She finished the contest shooting 9-of-17 from the floor, including 6-for-11 from 3-point range.
The Terriers led by as many as eight in the second half following an Alford 3-pointer, but the Mountaineers fought back to claim a seven-point lead of its own with less than five minutes to play.
