CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - University of Hartford's Amelia Pereira is the 2012
America East Women's Soccer Fans' Choice Player of the Year as voted on by over
700 unique fans on the conference's Facebook page.
Pereira, a senior forward, received 32 percent of the vote (224 votes) to earn
the honor. UMBC goalkeeper Lauren Kadet finished second with 17 percent of the
vote (120) and Stony Brook forward Larissa Nysch finished third with 16.7
percent of the vote (117). It is the second time Pereira has been voted as the
Fans' Choice Player of the Year and the third-straight year a Hartford player
has won.
Pereira leads the America East in points (30), goals
(12) and game-winning goals (5). She earned Player of the Week accolades twice
this season, and has recorded four two-goal games. Pereira had a streak of
six-straight games with a point, and helped the Hawks clinch the No. 1 seed in
the America East Championship with a 6-2-0 record in conference play.
This is the fourth-straight year America East has given out a Fans' Choice
Player of the Year award in women's soccer with Binghamton's Mandi
Casares (2009) and Hartford's Caitlin Alves earning the award in 2011. Pereira
also earned the distinction in 2010.
Voting for the 2012 award was from October 16-23 with one player of each member
institution named to the ballot. The America East All-Conference teams will be
announced via release at AmericaEast.com at 3 p.m. on Wednesday.
