CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – A pair of America East runners set school records on their way to Performer of the Week Honors along with a pair of field athletes.

Binghamton senior Erik van Ingen (Cortland, N.Y./Marathon) and Boston University senior Katie Matthews (Rocky Hill, Conn./Rocky Hill) collect Male and Female Track Performer of the Week nods while UMBC’s Cameron McDearmon (Owings Mills, Md./Franklin) and Boston University’s Allison Barwise (Orange, Conn./Amity Regional) pick up the Male and Female Performer of the Week awards.

Van Ingen finished second overall in the 3,000 meters at the Terrier Invitational this past weekend in a time of 7:56.21. The senior broke his own school record and nearly hit the NCAA Championship automatic qualifier of 7:52.30.

Matthews broke a school record and posted the best indoor time in the nation in the 5,000 meter run. She finished with a time of 15:52.80, which qualifies her for the NCAA Championships. She eclipsed the previous school record by more than 10 seconds.

Competing at the Patriot games held at George Mason, McDearmon won the weight throw with a toss of 17.37m (56’11.85”), which is the second-best toss in the America East this season. He also took second in the shot put after recording a throw of 14.40m (47’2.92”). The win in the weight throw is his second of the season.

Barwise, the defending America East Champion in the high jump, won the event at the Terrier Invitational, clearing 1.75 meters. The junior also took second in the long jump with a mark of 5.61m.

Albany returns to competition on Feb. 3 and 4 at the New York City Armory for the 2012 New Balance Collegiate Invitational.

Fifth-year senior Erik van Ingen finished second in the 3,000 meters, highlighting the Binghamton track and field teams’ performances at the Terrier Invitational in Boston this past weekend. Van Ingen’s time of 7:56.21 broke his own school record, which he set at the same meet last season. Senior Nelson Hall (Scarsdale, N.Y./Scarsdale) tied for sixth in the high jump (6’4.75”). On the women’s side, sophomore Erika Kisel (Waverly, N.Y./Waverly) finished third in the 500 (1:16.98) and Kaitlin Sullivan (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) placed fifth in the 60 hurdles (8.90). Binghamton sent its top jumpers and throwers to the Penn State Nationals. Senior Eric van Aernam (Gardiner, N.Y./Wallkill) tied for sixth in the pole vault (15’1”) while Jenna Marrione (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) was eighth in the women’s event (11’5.75”).

Boston University hosted the Terrier Invitational over the weekend. For the Terrier women, senior Shelby Walton (Danbury, Conn./Danbury) won both the 60m dash (7.66) and the 200m dash (24.32). She is the defending America East Champion in both events. Also on the track for the women, Katie Matthews bolted to a win in the 5,000 meter run finishing in a time of 15:52.80 qualifying her for the NCAA Championships. In the field, Nikko Brady (New Castle, Del./Charter School of Wilmington) was best in the long jump with a leap of 5.75m. The men received top notch performances on the track from R.J. Page (Swedesboro, N.J./Kingsway Regional) and Stephen Vitale (Randolph, N.J./Randolph). Page sprinted to a school record in the 200m dash (21.34) while Vitale sparkled in the 500, finishing second in 1:03.40 – tops among America East competitors. In the field for the Terrier men, Sam Wuest (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury) placed fourth in the high jump (1.95m) and Sam Arsenault (Newtonville, Mass./Newton North) finished fifth in the long jump (6.68m). Boston University is next in action at the Battle of Beantown hosted by Harvard next weekend.

Hartford returned to competition after a seven-week layoff at the Joe Donahue Collegiate Indoor Meet in Boston. The Hawk women finished 12th and the men finished 15th. Freshman Tiffany Harrison (Bloomfield Conn./Bloomfield) recorded the women’s squad’s top finish placing fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 59.16. Harrison’s time qualifies her for the New England Championship meet. Classmate Sam Crisfulli (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) also earned a top-10 finish, coming in tenth in the 500-meter dash, posting a time of 1:20.94.  For the men, seniors Anderson Emerole (Jamaica, N.Y./ Manhattan Center for Math and Sciences) and Andrew Chalmers (Ashland, N.H./Plymouth Regional) scored points as individuals to lead the Hawks. Emerole finished sixth in the 500-meter dash with his time of 1:06.46 while Chalmers posted a time of 15:07.53 in the 5,000 meters to take eighth. Hartford continues 2012 action at the Springfield Invitational in Springfield, Mass., next weekend.

Jesse Labreck (Oakland, Maine/Messalonskee) won the long jump (18’10.75”) to lead the Maine track and field teams at the Joe Donohue Collegiate Indoor Games. Also for the Black Bear women, Vasiliki Papakotsi (Athens, Greece)  earned runner-up honors in the pole vault with a mark of 11’11.75” and Jennifer Lucy (Bangor, Maine) was fifth in the mile with a time of 5:04.64. As a team, the Black Bears finished eighth. On the men’s side, Jake Leithiser had a pair of top-eight finishes to lead the way. Leithiser took second in the 400m dash with a time of 49.68 and also placed eighth in the 200m dash with a time of 23.07. The Black Bear men finished ninth as a team. Next up for Maine is a home meet against Holy Cross on Saturday, Feb. 4.

The UMBC track and field teams competed at three different events this past weekend. At the Patriot Games at George Mason, Cameron McDearmon won the weight throw with a heave of 17.37m. He also claimed silver in the shot put with a toss of 14.40m. Senior Keri Wilson (Columbia, Md./Long Reach) and Kirsten McGovern (Sykesville, Md./Century) collected top-five finishes in the 3,000-meter run with Wilson placing second and McGovern coming in right behind third. At the Penn State Nationals, Amanda Deller (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen) and Mercedes Jackson (Huntington, Md./Huntington) each finished fifth, in the shot put and the 60m dash respectively. At the Bison Open and Multi, Malte Bertram (Einbeck, Germany/Goethschile Gymnasium) took second-place with  4,590 points and classmate Eric Ezanwanna (Columbia, Md.) finished fourth with 4,322 points. The Retrievers travel to New York City for the New Balance Collegiate Invitational on Feb. 3 and 4.

New Hampshire competed in a pair of events in Boston over the weekend as a select group took part in the Terrier Invitational while the rest of the team competed at the Joe Donahue Indoor Games. The men earned a fourth-place team finish at the Joe Donahue Games behind senior Brice Paey (Milton, N.H.) who won the shot put for the fourth time in as many meets this season. He topped the field of 26 on Friday with a toss of 57’8.25”. Kevin Green (Silver Spring, Md.) raced to a second-place finish in the 1,000 meters in a time of 2:28.19, earning him a trip to the IC4A Championships. The Wildcat women’s weekend was headlined by Sydney Fitzpatrick’s (Billerica, Mass.) performance in the 5,000 meters. She crossed the finish line in school-record time of 16:17.62 qualifying her for the ECAC Championships.  The throwing tandem of Rosemary Read (Greenwich, R.I.) and Melody Pothier (Lisbon, Conn.) competed in the weight throw at both events for the women. Read made the finals at both meets, placing ninth at the Terrier Invite and sixth at the Indoor Games. New Hampshire will take part in the Dartmouth Indoor Classic on Feb. 4.

Stony Brook’s track and field teams competed at the Metropolitan Championships hosted at the New York City Armory on Friday. On the women’s side, Lucy Van Dalen (Wanganui, New Zealand) won the 800m run with a time of 2:07.61, a new school record, as she qualified for the ECAC Championships. The women’s distance medley team of Olivia Burne (Palmerston North, New Zealand), LaQuaisha Hall (New York, N.Y.), Van Dalen and Annie Keown (Aukland, New Zealand) took first in an ECAC qualifying time of 11:46.78. For the men, Terry Martin (Bloomingburg, N.Y.) set a school record (8.35) in the 60m hurdles. The 4x400 relay team of Martin, Robert Taylor (Jamiaca, N.Y.), Adam Jacobs (Rexford, N.Y.) and Frank Gravano (Lindenhurt, N.Y.) ran a 3:26.17 for sixth place, qualifying the team for the METS at the Millrose Games. Next up for Stony Brook is the Giegengack Invitational at Yale University.

The Vermont track and field teams competed at the Joe Donahue Collegiate Indoor Games this weekend in Boston and the women finished third out of 16 teams. The men finished 12th. The Vermont women dominated the 800-meter run as Julie McGilpin (Westfield, Mass./Westfield) and Yolanda Ngarambe (Marsta, Sweden/Rudbeck) went 1-2 in the event. Senior Morgan Powers (Cincinnati, Ohio/Indian Hill) finished second in the mile with a time of 4:55.96, just 0.36 second behind the winner. In the field, Brittany St. Clair (Whitehall, N.Y./Whitehall) set a new personal best in the long jump, placing third with a jump of 5.41 meters. For the men, Vermont’s ‘A’ team earned a fourth-place finish in the distance medley with a time of 10:23.09. Aaron Tenney (St. Alban’s, Vt./Bellows Free Academy) scored a point for the Catamounts with his 1.88-meter leap in the high jump and Dan Ciabattoni (Reading, Pa./Holy Name) scored five points with his performance in the long jump (6.89m), which was good for fourth place. Vermont returns to action next weekend competing in two events – the New Balance Collegiate Classic on Feb. 3 and the Dartmouth Invitational in Hanover on Feb. 4.
