Following a night where Stony Brook took over first-place in the conference standings in its first game of the league schedule's second half, four other teams look to improve its position Saturday.
In Orono, Maine (9-10, 3-5 AE) hosts Binghamton (0-20, 0-8 AE) at 2 p.m. The Black Bears, who snapped a five-game win streak with a win at New Hampshire Wednesday, have won five straight over the Bearcats. The Black Bears took the first meeting, 76-61, paced by Alasdair Fraser's last night.
Albany (13-9, 5-3 AE) travels to Hartford (4-16, 4-4 AE) for a key America East contest between teams separated by just one game in the conference standings. The Hawks have won five of the last seven in the series, but the Great Danes won the first matchup, 88-63, on Jan. 2 behind 24 points from Gerardo Suero.
Last night, Stony Brook (13-9, 8-1 AE) beat Boston University, 66-57, in front of a soldout crowd and a national television audience on ESPNU to pull into sole possession of first place in the league standings. The game was a seesaw battle that saw Boston U. grab a nine-point first-half lead before Stony Brook went up by 13 in the second half.
The Terriers roared back with a 17-0 run however to take a 51-47 lead with six minutes left. But, the Seawolves closed the game on a 12-3 run for their ninth win in 10 games. Bryan Dougher scored 20 points to lead Stony Brook while Darryl Partin had 21 for the Terriers.
