The first eight games of a 16-game America East slate have been played with each of the nine teams winning at least once. Just one team remains undefeated. Boston U. moved to 8-0 after Wednesday's 59-53 victory over third-place UMBC (5-3).
Albany (7-1), whose only loss came to the Terriers, sits in second place through the first round robin. The preseason coaches' poll predicted the Great Danes to finish the season in fifth place.
The next six teams in the standings are separated by just three games. Following the Retrievers in the standings are both Binghamton and New Hampshire with 4-4 marks. The Bearcats fell to Albany Wednesday night, 37-36, while the Wildcats were 66-50 winners over Maine in Orono.
After finishing the non-conference schedule with the best record, Hartford is 3-5 in the first half of America East play. The Hawks won their most recent game 63-44 over Stony Brook, their first home victory in the month of January. Vermont and Maine, both with 2-6 records, are tied for seventh, while Stony Brook rounds out the nine-team field after gonig 1-7 over the last eight games.
Teams will begin the second half of the conference season on Saturday with four more games.
