BALTIMORE, Md.-- The UMBC Retrievers and Boston University Terriers women's hoops teams will be on the national stage Wednesday afternoon at UMBC's The RAC as their noontime matchup will air live on ESPN3 and ESPN's multimedia platforms. Eric Frede will have the play by play and Leah Secondo will provide the color analysis. WATCH LIVE
The matchup pits together a pair of the hottest teams in the league right now as UMBC (11-9, 5-2 AE) has won four of its last five games and Boston U. (14-6, 7-0 AE) has cruised to seven consecutive victories. The preseason coaches' poll predicted UMBC as the favorites with Boston U. finishing second in the final league standings.
The contest also features six of America East's top-10 active career scorers with UMBC senior guard Michelle Kurowski leading the way having 1,508 career points. Retriever senior forward Erin Brown, who is also among that group, leads the league with 15.5 ppg.
Terrier senior Alex Young and juniors Chantell Alford and Mo Moran make up Boston U.'s formidable backcourt. Alford leads the team with 12.4 ppg, Moran averages 11.2 ppg and Young rounds out the double-digit scorers with 11.1 ppg.
An intriguing matchup in this game could be the point guards, Moran and UMBC freshman Lauren Chase. Chase leads the league in conference play with 5.9 apg as well as 2.6 spg. Moran ranks second with 3.9 apg and an assist-to-turnover ratio of 1.7.
America East is
in its first year of a five-year contract with ESPN that will feature
conference games exclusively on ESPN3, ESPN’s multi-screen network
available through an affiliated internet or video provider online via
WatchESPN.com, on smartphones and tablets via the WatchESPN app and

Three other games around the league Wednesday night include a televised matchup in West Hartford as Stony Brook (4-16, 1-6 AE) visits Hartford (11-10, 2-5 AE). The game will be shown live throughout the state of Connecticut on CPTV Sports beginning at 7 p.m. The Hawks are 7-2 at home this year. The Seawolves have won just once on the road this season, but that victory came in conference play.
At 6 p.m., New Hampshire (10-9, 3-4 AE) treks up I-95 for a date with Maine. The Wildcats have lost two in a row entering the game, while the Black Bears have won two of their last three outings to move up into a tie for sixth place in the league standings.
SUNY rivals Albany and Binghamton will square off Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in the Events Center. The Great Danes still top the conference in league play with 43.9 ppg scoring defense. The Bearcats are on a two-game win streak over UMBC and New Hampshire during which they've averaged 62.5 ppg.
