Binghamton hosts Hartford in the lone America East men's basketball game of the day Sunday. The Bearcats are in search of their first conference win while the Hawks go for their second.
Both team rely on youth to carry them. Binghamton (0-16, 0-4 AE) is one of nine Division I programs without a senior on its roster. Sophomore Robert Mansell leads the team in scoring and ranks sixth among league leaders averaging 14.4 points per game, while freshman Ben Dickinson is 12th averaging 12.4 points per game and tied for ninth in rebounding (6.0 rpg). Hartford (1-14, 1-2 AE) gets 64 percent of its scoring from freshmen, led by Wes Cole's 10.2 points per game. Five of the Hawks' top seven scorers are first-year players.
On Saturday, Albany (12-7, 4-1 AE) moved into a tie for first-place with Stony Brook (9-7, 4-1 AE) after beating Maine (8-7, 2-2 AE), 76-75, and the Seawolves dropped their first league game at Boston U. (7-11, 3-1 AE), 61-55. The Great Danes, who have won seven of their last nine, got 26 points from Gerardo Suero, his 14th 20-plus point game of the year, and improved to 7-0 at SEFCU Arena this year.
Boston U. won its third straight by jumping out to a 14-2 lead on Stony Brook and never relinquishing it. Darryl Partin scored 16 of his team-high 18 points in the second half, while Dave Coley had a game and career-high 21 points for the Seawolves, who had their six-game win streak snapped.
Elsewhere, UNH (6-8, 1-3 AE) picked up its first league win and snapped a three-game losing skid with a 72-64 win over Vermont (8-9, 3-2 AE). Patrick Konan led the Wildcats with 19 points and eight rebounds.
