With just one game on the schedule last night, the spotlight was on Baltimore where UMBC hosted Stony Brook. The Retrievers (9-8, 3-1 AE) came away with the 73-47 win after trailing by as many as 10 points to the Seawolves (4-13, 1-3 AE).
Stony Brook led 20-10 about midway through the first half, its largest advantage of the game. UMBC fought back to tie the game at 24-all at the intermission.
The Retrievers more than doubled their first-half output in the second half, outscoring the visitors 49-23 in the final 20 minutes of the game. Senior Erin Brown scored a game-high 20 points, while freshman Lauren Chase handed out all nine of her assists in the second half. Junior Kristin Coles, who was one of five Retrievers to tally double-figure points, notched her first double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Off the Stony Brook bench, junior Dani Klupenger nailed five three-pointers on six attempts to finish with 17 points, one off her career high.
UMBC is off until Monday, while Stony Brook returns to Long Island to welcome Boston U. on Saturday afternoon.
