CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The two remaining unbeaten America East women's soccer team have claimed the first weekly soccer awards of September, it was announced Tuesday afternoon. University of Hartford's Amelia Pereira (Madeira Island, Portugal/Escola da APEL) earned Player of the Week recogntion after leading the Hawks to two wins and their best start since 1999. Boston University's Taylor Krebs (Dove Canyon, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic) picked up her second straight Rookie of the Week honor by helping the Terriers improve to 5-0-1, their best start since 1996, and enter the national rankings for the first time since 2006.

Pereira, a first-team all-conference forward last year, tallied seven points (2 goals, 3 assists) and led Hartford to a pair of wins last week. The junior forward contributed to both goals in a 2-0 win over Fairleigh Dickinson Friday by scoring a goal and assisting on the other. She followed up with another goal and two assists in a 5-1 win over Temple Sunday. The wins helped the Hawks improve to 3-0-1 and stay unbeaten through four games for the first time since 1999. Despite missing a game because she dressed for the Portuguese national squad in two friendly matched with Turkey, Pereria is tied for the league lead with eight points.

Krebs scored the game-winning goal in Boston University’s 2-0 upset win over eighth-ranked Portland on Sunday. The freshman forward, who is tied for second among league leaders with three goals this season, scored in the 20th minute off a feed from Lina Cords to give her team a 1-0 lead.

The Terriers, who also won at Washington, 1-0, last weekend, entered the national rankings for the first time is six seasons this week as a result of their unbeaten start to the season. Boston U., the first America East team to crack the national rankings since 2006, is slated 20th in the Soccer America Poll and 23rd in the NSCAA National Poll.

played St. John’s and Hofstra over the weekend at the NYC Classic, hosted by the Red Storm ... The Great Danes fell to St. John’s on Friday, 2-0, and lost to Hofstra on Sunday, 5-0 ... Aubrey VanGorder (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland) led the team with three shots ... Sophomore goalkeeper Dani Britt (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) started both games in the net for UAlbany, making four saves ... Freshman Jacky Ubert (Amityville, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) played 73:11 between the pipes against Hofstra, making nine saves ... VanGorder and senior captain Chrissy Klepper (River Edge, N.J./River Dell) were named to the All-Tournament team ... The Great Danes will visit Iona on Wednesday before hosting Colgate Friday and La Salle on Sunday to continue non-conference play.

Binghamton (3-3-0)
split two games during the week, losing at Lehigh 1-0 Friday before blanking Fairleigh Dickinson at home Sunday, 2-0 ... Against the defending Patriot League champion Mountain Hawks, Binghamton gave a strong effort, surrendering only a first-half goal that bounced over the keeper’s head. The Bearcats thought they had the equalizer midway through the second half on a header that found the net before the goal was disallowed on an offsides call ... Back home Sunday afternoon, Binghamton put up 28 shots against visiting FDU and scored a goal in each half to post the 2-0 win. Junior forward Sarah Furminger (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal/Broome CC) tallied a goal and an assist and senior linemate AnnMarie Rizzi (Cornwall, N.Y./Cornwall) scored the other goal ... Rizzi was selected as the team’s America East Player of the Game for her work up front ... Sophomore keeper Carrie Martin (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) made four saves for her second solo shutout of the season ... This week the Bearcats will face Bucknell and Siena - two programs Binghamton has never lost to. Binghamton is 2-0 against the Bison and beat Siena 1-0 back in the program’s first Division I season in 2001.

Boston University (5-0-1) extended its unbeaten streak to eight games on Sunday afternoon with a 2-0 upset over No. 8 Portland on the final day of the Husky/Nike Invitational ... The Terriers have tied the 1996 squad for longest unbeaten streak to open a season ... It has outscored its opponents 12-3 and has four shutouts in six games ... Boston U. is ranked 20th in the latest Soccer America Top 25 Poll and 23rd in the NSCAA Poll... Next up is Connecticut on Friday (Sept. 9) in Storrs, Conn., and Massachusetts on Sunday (Sept. 11) in Amherst, Mass.

Hartford (3-0-1) scored a pair of victories this week to remain unbeaten in 2011 ... the Hawks opened the week with a second-straight shutout, 2-0 over Fairleigh Dickinson on the road before a 5-1 rout of Temple in the home opener at Al-Marzook field at Alumni Stadium ... junior Amelia Pereira (Madeira Island, Portugal/Escola da Apel) led the Hawks through the week, finishing with seven points on two goals and three assists ... she opened the week scoring the game winning goal against FDU, connecting on a penalty kick attempt in the 25th minute ... she then assisted on the insurance goal in the second half to put her mark on both of the Hawks goal ... she was then a part of three goals in the win over Temple, including scoring an unassisted goal in the 49th minute beating out the defense and eluding the keeper who came out of the 6-yard box ... Pereira’s fellow classmate Caitlin Alves (Ludlow, Mass./The Williston Northampton School) finished the week with two goals, one in each game, while Michele DeSanti (Meriden, Conn./Mercy), Mary Beth Hamilton (Columbia, Conn./Mercy) and Julianne Oberholtzer (Holland, Pa./Council Rock South) all scored their first goals of the season ... Oberholtzer’s was the first of her career ... the Hawks will play a pair of games in the week ahead, welcoming in-state rival Quinnipiac for a Nutmeg state clash on Thursday at 7 p.m. before traveling to Long Island for a Sunday afternoon matinee (1 PM).

Maine (1-1-1) fell to Sacred Heart, 4-3, on Friday night and then finished in a 1-1 double overtime tie against Iona on Sunday... Senior Carolyne Nellis (Quebec City, Quebec) has scored four of Maine’s five goals on the season ... The four goals ties her career high for goals in a season set last year.... Rookie Jordan Pellerin (Waterville, Maine/Waterville) notched her first collegiate point with an assist against Sacred Heart on Friday night... Pellerin earned her first collegiate start on Sunday afternoon against Iona.... Maine and Iona finished in a 1-1 draw on Sunday afternoon... It was the first tie for the Black Bears since the 2009 season, as Maine finished 9-9-0 a year ago... Maine travels to Holy Cross for a game on Tuesday afternoon, before returning home to host Rhode Island on Sunday at noon.

UMBC (0-5-0) dropped a pair of games last week … The Retrievers fell at Penn, 3-0, on Friday … Sophomore forward Amy Savage (Ottawa, Ontario/Sir Wilfrid Laurier) took all for UMBC shots, and sophomore goalie Lauren Kadet (Oakville, Ontario/St. Thomas Aquinas) had four saves … The Retrievers lost in a heartbreaker at home to Bucknell on Sunday, 2-1, as the Bison scored the game-winner with just 1:10 remaining in regulation … Junior forward Rachel McKee (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) tallied her second goal of the season in the 72nd minute, tying the game at 1-1… She finished with a game-high six shots, while Kadet made seven saves… McKee leads the Retrievers with two goals and four points, while Savage has three points on a goal and an assist to account for all of UMBC’s scoring so far this season… Savage has taken a team-best 12 shots … With 24 saves this season, Kadet now ranks ninth all-time at UMBC with 132 career saves, while senior Mo Van Vlerah (Germantown, Md./Northwest) is seventh with 153… UMBC hosts cross-town rival Towson Friday evening in its only game next week, playing its first game under the newly installed lights of Retriever Soccer Park.

New Hampshire (0-4-0) finished its most recent week of action with a record of 0-2, playing a pair of matches in the Nike Tournament hosted by the University of Oregon ... Junior Monique Lamotte (Tampa, Fla./Freedom) was named to the All-Tournament Team ... The Wildcats opened the week with a 3-0 loss to the University of Oregon (Sept. 2) at Pape’ Field ... Oregon outshot UNH 16-4 in the match, including an 8-1 edge in the second frame ... Senior Alyssa Michel (Bellingham, Wash./Mesa State College) led the Wildcats with two shots, including one on goal ... Sophomore goalkeeper Erica Correa (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire) registered a game-best five saves in the contest ... In their most recent outing, the ‘Cats dropped a 4-0 decision to Oregon State University (Sept. 4) ... The Beavers outshot the Wildcats 19-2 in the contest, while also claiming the edge in corner kicks by a 6-1 margin ... The Wildcats return to action Friday, Sept. 9 (7 p.m.) when they take on the University of Rhode Island at the URI Soccer Complex.

Stony Brook (1-4-0)
dropped a pair of games last week to Rhode Island (1-0) and Sacred Heart (2-1) at LaValle Stadium ... junior Taryn Schoenbeck (Newark, Del./Padua Academy) scored her first goal of the season against the Pioneers to tie the score 1-1 in the 81st minute ... Sacred Heart scored four minutes later to win the match ... Schoenbeck’s goal snapped Stony Brook’s scoreless streak at just over 380 minutes dating back to the season opener against Iona ... sophomore Chelsea Morales (Temecula, Calif./Temecula Valley) made 15 saves this week, including nine against URI ... the Seawolves will wrap up a three-game homestand on Friday when they welcome Long Island University to LaValle Stadium at 7 p.m. ... Stony Brook will also travel to the Bronx, N.Y. on Sunday to take on Fordham at 1 p.m.

Vermont (2-2-1) won back-to-back games with 1-0 victories over American and Iona for the first time since 2006 ... sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Leiby (West Chester, Pa. / W.C. Bayard Rustin) had her shutout streak snapped at two after the Catamounts dropped a 5-0 decision at #12 Boston College ... Four different players have scored for the Catamounts this season ... sophomore Hayley Marks (Penfield, N.Y. / Penfield) netted the game-winning goal in the win over Iona, while junior Jess Herbst (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) had the game-winner versus American ... The win over American marked the first career victory for first-year head coach Kristi Lefebvre ... Vermont continues a six-game road swing with a pair of games versus Ivy League opponents when they travel to Dartmouth on Thursday (Sept. 8) and Brown on Saturday (Sept. 10).
