New for the 2011-2012 seasons, the America East Daily Word, a collaboration between AmericaEast.com and AExtra, will recap the previous day's games and on goings on our nine campuses and provide links to recaps, previews, features and exclusive coverage.
I
do not know former Stony Brook pitcher Joe Nathan personally. But I’ll take Jim Fiore’s word that Nathan is
a "good dude."
Fiore,
Stony Brook’s athletic director (@JDFiore), caught up with the former Seawolf
at Target Field in Minnesota, tweeted about it, and voila, gave us with the
Tweet of the Day.
But
that wasn't the only news coming out of Stony Brook last night.
The
National Lacrosse League had its 2011 Entry Draft and two former Stony Brook
players heard their names called. Kevin
Crowley was the first selection overall by the Philadelphia Wings and Jordan
McBride went to the Colorado Mammoth at No. 13.
The America East Conference continues to produce professional lacrosse
players as Crowley and McBride represent the 17th and 18th
players drafted into the NLL in the last five years. And since 2007, the conference has had 38
selections in the NLL and Major League Lacrosse combined.
Crowley
earned America East All-Conference honors all four years of his illustrious
career. He is Stony Brook’s all-time
leader in points scoring 131 goals and notching 101 assists. Perhaps more impressive, though, is that he
is the first lacrosse player to be drafted first overall by the NLL and the MLL.
McBride
ranks 10th all-time in Division I lacrosse with 175 career goals and
is Stony Brook’s record holder in that department. He scored at least 40 goals in every
collegiate season. McBride scored 41
goals a season ago earning him America East Player of the Year honors.
Both
Seawolves played in the 2011 MLL season, McBride for the Rochester Rattlers and
Crowley for the Hamilton Nationals.
