CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - A pair of goal scorers earned America East men's soccer weekly honors for the week ending Monday, Sept. 12. University at Albany's Quintel Gates (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore/Adelphi) scored his fourth goal in three games to earn Player of the Week honors while University of Hartford's Rohan Roye (Kingston, Jamaica/Kingston College/St. George’s College) scored twice last week to gain Rookie of the Week recognition.
Gates scored the game-winning goal in the 100th minute of Albany’s 2-1 overtime win against Buffalo Sunday. The junior forward set up teammate Brandon Wilson for a shot and then tapped home the rebound to give the Great Danes their second straight win. Gates, a transfer from Adelphi, has four goals in his last three games. He is tied for the league lead with those four goals and ranks second with eight points.
Roye started his collegiate career off with a bang, scoring in each of his first two games last weekend. The freshman forward scored off a header in the 62nd minute of a 2-1 loss to UNC-Wilmington on Friday and then converted a penalty kick in the 67th minutes of a 3-2 loss to Campbell on Sunday. His first goal also snapped his team’s 290 minute scoring draught.

Albany (2-2-0) was able to go 1-0 last week with a win vs. Buffalo, 2-1 in OT, on Sunday, Sept. 11 ... Junior forward Quintel Gates (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore) continues his hot streak as he tallied his fourth goal in three games ... Gates tapped in the game-winner vs. Buffalo in the 100th minute ... Senior midfielder David Pinto (Valley Stream, N.Y./Central Connecticut State) was able to start off the second half vs. Buffalo with a header in the 66th minute to give the Great Danes the 1-0 lead ... Freshman midfielder Pomare Te Anau (Auckland, New Zealand/Mt. Albert Grammar) continues his point streak at three games when he volleyed a crossing pass to Pinto for his second assist and fourth point of the season in three games ... Senior goalkeeper Adrian Foncette (Arima, Trinidad/Fatima) tallied seven saves vs. Buffalo, giving him 12 saves on the season ... Foncette raised his save percentage from .455 to .632 and dropped his goals against average from 1.97 to 1.69 ... Albany continues its season this weekend in the Binghamton Classic ... The Great Danes face off against Rider on Friday, Sept. 16 at 5 p.m. and then Central Connecticut State on Sunday, Sept. 18 at 12 p.m.
Binghamton (2-2-0) dropped its lone game of the week, a 2-1 defeat to No. 11 Ohio State on Sunday ... Junior forward Jake Keegan (Stormville, N.Y./John Jay) scored the Bearcats’ goal and has tallied a score in each of the Bearcats’ four games this season, something no other Binghamton player has done during the programs’ 10-year Division I era. He now has 14 career goals, which is the sixth-highest total netted by a Bearcat since the 2001 transition to the Division I level. Bryan Arnault (2003-06) ranks fifth with 15 goals and Joey Neilson (2003-06) is fourth with 16 goals ... Binghamton’s two losses have both come by a single goal to nationally-ranked opponents on the road. In each instance, the home team had to rally to defeat the Bearcats ... sophomore goalkeeper Anthony Sokaslki (Ontario, Canada/Regina Mundi) made a career-high 10 saves in the game against No. 11 Ohio State on Sunday. That marks the most saves by a Binghamton goalkeeper since Jason Stenta made 11 saves against Gonzaga on Sept. 18, 2009 ... Binghamton hosts its first in-season tournament ever at the Bearcats Sports Complex this coming weekend. Both the Bearcats and Albany Great Danes will have matches against Central Connecticut and Rider.
Boston University (1-3-0) dropped its third straight game with a 2-1 overtime loss to Seton Hall Friday ... The Terriers grabbed an early lead in the 10th minute when freshman Dominique Badji (Alexandria, Va./Episcopal) headed in a cross from classmate Sanford Spivey (Santa Barbara, Calif./Santa Barbara) ... Seton Hall rallied back with goals in the 60th and 97th minutes ... Freshman Nick Thomson (Cramlington, England/Cramlington Learning Village) record three saves for Boston University ... The Terriers have now given up a goal in three straight overtime games dating back to last season ... They will conclude their three-game homestand against the Big East conference with No. 3 Connecticut on Friday, Sept. 16, at 7 p.m.
Hartford (1-4) dropped all three matches last week, each by a one goal margin ... The Hawks were first blanked at Central Connecticut, 1-0, before suffering a pair of losses to UNC-Wilmington (2-1) and Campbell (3-2) at the Courtyard by Marriott Classic hosted by UNCW ... Rookie Rohan Roye (Kingston, Jamaica/Kingston College/St. George’s College) led the Hawks’ attack with two goals on the week, netting his first collegiate goal at UNCW before connecting on a penalty kick in the 67th minute against Campbell ... He was named to the Courtyard by Marriott All-Tournament Team along with classmate defender Atobra Ampadu (Rocky Point, N.Y./The Hotchkiss School) ... Roye’s first goal of the weekend snapped a scoring drought for the Hawks that spanned more than 290 minutes dating back to the team’s season-opening, 1-0 win against Siena on September 1 ... The Hawks have not won a road game since October 3, 2009 when it shutout Albany, 1-0 ... During that 23-month stretch, Hartford has not posted a win away from West Hartford in 24 attempts, going 0-23-1 ... Hartford wraps up a four-game road stretch when it travels to Quinnipiac on Wed., Sept. 14 (4 p.m.) ... UMBC’s (2-0-2) scheduled contest vs. Towson on Sept. 6 was canceled due to heavy rain and flooding in the Baltimore area ... It is the third time in four years that UMBC has had a weather cancellation of a game ... The Retrievers were ranked eighth in the Northeast region last week ... Senior defender Andy Streilein (Rockville, Md./Wootton/U. Delaware) scored a stunning goal with five seconds left in regulation and the Retrievers tied visiting Navy, 1-1, before a season-high crowd of 1,147 at Retriever Soccer Park on Sept. 9 ... The goal was Streilein’s first since the 2009 campaign and his sixth career score ... After the teams combined for seven first-half shots, the Retrievers rang up 19 and the Mids countered with 17 in the final 65 minutes ... Both netminders were brilliant- UMBC senior Dan Louisignau (Wilmington, Del./Concord/U. Virginia) posted nine saves for the second consecutive game, while Navy sophomore goalie Adam Dupere was severely tested down the stretch and was credited with 11 stops .. The Wildcats fell to Colgate University, 2-1, in the second game of the tournament on Sept. 11 ... Schlatter scored UNH’s lone goal in the contest in the 21st minute of play ... New Hampshire outshot Colgate 10-8, including a 7-3 edge in the second frame ... The ‘Cats also claimed a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks ... Steven Palumbo (Kingston, N.H./Sanborn Regional) led the Wildcats with a game-high six shots ... Stony Brook (1-2-2) split a pair of games last weekend at the Flash Gordon Invitational on the campus of High Point University ... the Seawolves knocked off host High Point 3-1 and lost to Radford 3-0 ... High Point had been previously ranked in the NSCAA South Atlantic Region poll ... the win over High Point was the first regular season home loss for the Panthers since Oct. 7, 2009, a span of 13 matches ... three juniors scored goals in the victory, including Raphael Abreu (New York, N.Y.), Kyle Schlesinger (Selden, N.Y.) and Leonardo Fernandes (Sao Paulo, Brazil) ... Schlesinger tallied the game-winner while Fernandes scored on a penalty kick...Fernandes is now 4-for-4 on penalty kick attempts in his career ... junior goalkeeper Stefan Manz (Bronx, N.Y.) stopped three shots, including a penalty kick in which he made a diving stop to his right ... junior Berian Gobeil Cruz (Montreal, Quebec) and sophomore Will Casey (Setauket, N.Y.) each had assists in the win ... despite the loss to Radford, Stony Brook finished second in the four-team tournament at High Point ... the Seawolves return home for a three-game stretch, beginning Thursday against Sacred Heart.

UVM allowed its first goal of the season as the Raiders netted the game-winner with 1:23 remaining in regulation ... Vermont bounced back with a 1-0 victory over UMass in the second day ... Zach Paul (Longmont, Colo. / Alexander Dawson School) converted a penalty kick in the 68th minute for his first goal of the year to lead UVM to the victory ... Goalkeeper Dave Ramada (Rutland, Vt./Rutland) came up with six saves in the two games and posted his third shutout of the year in the win over the Minutemen ...
