CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - By tallying game-winning goals last week, University at Albany's Chrissy Klepper (River Edge, N.J./River Dell) and Boston University's Taylor Krebs (Dove Canyon, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic) have earned America East women's soccer weekly honors for the period ending Aug. 28, it was announced Monday. Klepper picked up Player of the Week accolades while Krebs was named Rookie of the Week.
Klepper played an instrumental role in Albany’s season-opening 3-2 overtime win against Sacred Heart on Friday by scoring the game-winning goal and adding an assist. The senior midfielder set up the Great Danes’ second score of the day, a goal by sophomore Aubrey VanGorder in the 11th minute, which gave them a 2-0 lead. After the Pioneers scored twice to force overtime, Klepper, whose goal was her fifth in 49 career games, took a long pass from Rebecca Lee and redirected it into the left side of the goal with 18 seconds remaining in the first OT period to give her team the victory.
Krebs tallied her first career collegiate goals last week, scoring the game-winner in each of Boston University’s wins. The freshman forward provided a spark off the bench in both games, scoring in the 78th minute of a 3-2 win over Illinois State Friday and in the 23rd minute of a 3-0 victory over Loyola on Saturday. One of just threeplayers in the league (Aubrey VanGorder, Albany; Jessica Luscinski, Boston U.) with multiple goals thus far this season, Krebs has led the Terriers to a 3-0-1 start, their best since 2004.
Boston U.'s win over Loyola was the 300th of head coach Nancy Feldman's career. The eight-time America East Coach of the Year is now 208-99-22 at Boston U. She also spent time at Lake Forest (17-10-1) and Plymouth State (75-9-7). In addition to Albany, Maine also won its season opener over the weekend. Senior Carolynne Nellis scored to give the Black Bears a 1-0 win over Charleston Southern Friday.

The Great Danes were scheduled to play at Rhode Island on Sunday, but that game was postponed due to Hurricane Irene ... VanGorder netted the first goal of the game, an unassisted shot off a failed Sacred Heart clear ... Sophomore goalkeeper Dani Britt (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) played all 99:42 in net, making three saves ... The Great Danes will visit St. John's on Friday before taking on Hofstra on Sunday in the St. John's NYC Classic.
Binghamton (2-2-0) split two games during the week, blanking St. Joseph’s 2-0 at home before suffering a tough 1-0 overtime loss at St. Bonaventure two days later... Against the Hawks, the Bearcats tallied two goals in the second half and the back line earned its second straight shutout. Junior midfielder Brittany Walsh (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) converted a 16-yard shot off a nice feed from senior linemate Taylor Kucharski (Maine, N.Y./Maine-Endwell) in the 54th minute. Sophomore forward Kaitlyn Martin (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem) iced the game with 3:18 remaining, beating the keeper to a diagonal ball and slicing it into the empty net from the right side of the box. Junior forward Candice Rowland (Brewerton, N.Y./Central Square) delivered the pass to notch her second assist in as many games... On Sunday on Olean, however, the offensive production dried up in a 1-0 overtime loss to St. Bonaventure. It was the second 1-0 overtime setback in four games to start the season. The 2010 team had five 1-0 defeats... Sophomore keeper Carrie Martin (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) recorded 11 saves against the Bonnies, including several spectacular diving stops to keep the game scoreless through regulation. St. Bonaventure peppered BU with 21 shots, including 17 after halftime with the aid of a strong wind, and scored the game-winner 4:17 into the first extra session. Martin owns a 0.54 goals against average.
Boston University (3-0-1) is off to its best start since 2004 after concluding a three-game homestand with a 3-2 victory over Illinois State and 3-0 win against Loyola (Md.) ... With the win vs. the Greyhounds, 17th-year head coach Nancy Feldman earned her 300th career victory ... She improved her all-time record at BU to 208-99-29 (1995-pres.) ... She previously went 17-10-1 at Lake Forest (1988-89) and 75-9-7 at Plymouth State (1990-94) before joining the Terriers ... She became just the 12th NCAA head coach with at least 10 years at the Division I level to reach the 300-win milestone ... The Terriers have two tough games against ranked opponents this coming weekend at the Husky/Nike Classic ... UMBC (0-3-0) lost a heartbreaker at Temple on Friday, 2-1, in double overtime in its only action last week … Sophomore forward Amy Savage (Ottawa, Ontario/Sir Wilfrid Laurier), an America East All-Rookie Team selection a year ago, tallied her first goal of the season just seven minutes into the game … Her goal gave the Retrievers their first lead of the young season … Temple found the equalizer 14 minutes into the second half, then scored the game-winner with five minutes remaining in the second overtime period … Making her first start of the season, senior goalie Mo Van Vlerah (Germantown, Md./Northwest) recorded five saves … She now has 152 saves in her career, good for seventh on the Retrievers’ all-time list, while sophomore Lauren Kadet (Oakville, Ontario/St. Thomas Aquinas) ranks ninth with 121 career stops … UMBC’s game against Texas State, which was scheduled for Sunday afternoon, was canceled due to the impact of Hurricane Irene on the Baltimore area and will not be made up … Savage leads the Retrievers with three points on a goal and an assist this season… She has also taken a team-best five shots … UMBC visits Penn on Friday before returning to Retriever Soccer Park to host Bucknell on Sunday.
New Hampshire (0-2-0) finished its first week of action with a record of 0-2 … The Wildcats opened the week with a 2-1 loss to the University of Massachusetts (Aug. 23) at Lewis Fields … Senior forward Brooke Duchaney (Hampton Falls, N.H.) scored UNH’s lone goal of the contest, finding the back of the net in the 89th minute of play … Junior midfielder Monique Lamotte (Tampa, Fla.) was credited with the assist on the play … The ‘Cats produced a 12-10 advantage in shots in the contest, including a 10-4 margin in shots on goal … Later in the week the Wildcats came up just short, 1-0, to American University (Aug. 26) in a neutral site contest at Centennial Field … Despite giving up the game’s lone goal, sophomore goalkeeper Erica Correa (Cheshire, Conn.) shined, recording a game-high six saves … Both squads registered eight shots apiece in the outing, however, the ‘Cats outshot the Eagles 6-4 in the second frame … The Wildcats return to action when they travel to the University of Oregon to play the Ducks Friday, Sept. 2 (10 p.m.) in the first of two contests in the Nike Tournament.

Junior Sa'sha Kershaw (Baltimore, Md./Loch Raven) scored the game-winner against Iona and assisted on the other Seawolves' goal ... Kershaw first set up sophomore Caitlin Pfeiffer (Holland, N.Y./Holland Central) for the game-tying goal in the 56th minute ... Just 3:35 later, Kershaw took a feed from junior Taryn Schoenbeck (Newark, Del./Padua Academy) and slotted home the game-winner, her first-career game-deciding goal ... over the weekend at the James Madison Tournament in Harrisonburg, Va., Kershaw was named to the All-Tournament team, joining teammate Julianne Palm (Stilwell, Kansas/Blue Valley), who made a defensive save on Friday against Delaware, clearing a shot off the line ... sophomore Ashley Castanio (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) made her first collegiate start in goal on Sunday against JMU and made four saves ... Junior forward Jess Herbst (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) scored on a blast from distance to give UVM a 1-0 lead ... URI answered 12 minutes into the second half to knot the game up ... Sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Leiby (West Chester, Pa./W.C. Bayard Rustin) kept UVM in the match making several spectacular saves on breakaway opportunities ... In just her second career start, Leiby finished the match with a career-high 10 stops ... Vermont will play three games in the next seven days ... UVM starts with a rescheduled match vs. American on Monday (Aug. 29) and hosts Iona on Friday (Sept. 2) ... The Catamounts begin a six-game road swing at No. 10 Boston College on Sunday (Sept. 4).
