CAMBRIDGE, Mass.-- Based on fan voting on America East's Facebook page, the University of New Hampshire's regular-season championship is the 2010-11 America East Moment of the Year.
The America East unveiled 14 nominees for the award via video capsules earlier this summer and fans voted for their favorite Moment of the Year by liking the corresponding video on Facebook. Voting ran from July 13-31.
The UNH field hockey program received 97 votes, about 29 percent of the over 300 votes cast in the first year of the award. University of Maine baseball's tournament championship and NCAA regional play received the second-most votes with over 22 percent of the total. UMBC men's soccer's NCAA upset victory over Princeton earned a third-place finish with 11 percent.
The Wildcats went 5-0 in league play to capture the America East regular-season championship and host the conference tournament for the first time since 2000. The regular-season crown came down to the last game of the season when the Wildcats hosted Albany in Durham. UNH jumped out to a 2-0 lead against the Great Danes and never looked back in the 4-1 win to capture the title. America East field hockey had three teams ranked in the national top-20 and finished the 2010 campaign with the fourth-best RPI, only behind the ACC, Big Ten and Big East Conferences.
